Progress Report - March 2022


Welcome to the first-ever “Friday Night Funkin’: Infernal Bout” (formerly known as VS Bowser) progress report! First off, thank you for the amazing support on the mod, and all our other mods so far! We’re so close to hitting 1K followers on Twitter (where you will see updates much more frequently), and that’s really a crazy thing, we couldn’t thank you all enough!

With that being said, this progress report will be split into three sections. The first section will contain a roadmap of everything we plan to do with this mod, including some thoughts. The second section will be the current state of development, and the third section will be sharing some concept art, so stick around and read until the very end!


Roadmap

Infernal Bout will contain:

➡ ONE 4 song week

➡ Fully animated cutscenes

➡ 4 extra freeplay songs

➡ A revamped title screen, main menu, freeplay menu, and story menu

…So that’s a lot, yes. Which is why we’re going to release it in two parts to increase its longevity:

➡ Part 1 will contain the redone menus, first 3 songs of week 1 + cutscenes, as well as a 2 freeplay songs.

➡ Part 2 will contain the final song and cutscene, and 2 more freeplay songs.

So we hope you enjoy that roadmap! This could all change if we decide to combine both parts, but that’s just our thought process right now. It’ll let us get the product to you faster, and honestly just give us more room to breathe. We also promise the wait for part 2 won’t be nearly as long as a certain other mod about an angry fire-breathing character. At most around 2 weeks apart.

And with that, let’s move on to the current state of development!


Current State of Development

We’ve actually already released a short teaser during the FNF mod show, “Love N’ Funkin”. Check out the teaser here!

Onto actual development, a lot has actually already been done on this part! Check out this teaser for one of the songs, “Shell Shocker”!

Now to give an update on everything mentioned in the roadmap:

Menus: 80% - All art for the menus (besides freeplay) have been completed! All that’s left is to code them in.

Main Week (Part 1): 60% - Most backgrounds elements and completed. Bowser is getting a small rework from our original teaser. This includes new icons, animations, and a slightly new design. Most songs are currently finishing up as well. The main things that need to be completed are Boyfriend and the fully animated cutscenes.

Freeplay Songs (Part 1): 50% - A lot of the sprites and music are coming together! Some of it is relatively early, but we’re definitely making progress!

The freeplay menu will be completely revamped, basing the songs off cartridges from previous Mario games.

We’re also looking to expand outside the traditional Bowser week with the freeplay songs. All new characters from across games where Bowser is at the forefront. Of course there will be a few memes and crossovers (yet to be announced), and a few based on Bowser-centered games! We hope you look forward to all the ideas we have planned.


Closing Thoughts

And wow! That’s actually… already a lot completed. I didn’t even realize it until I put it all in perspective. So as you can see we’re currently doing very well. However, we still don’t want to give it a release window just yet. Polish, extra ideas, stuff like that. But we’ll always make sure to keep you guys updated through our twitter and more progress reports in the future!

Part 2 is being developed at the same time as part 1, so you won’t need to worry about a long wait period in between releases! Once we release part 1, we’ll share the completion percentages of part 2.

This mod is honestly progressing much faster than we all anticipated, especially as part 1 gets closer. We hope with everything we’ve shown off here you’re looking forward to playing the mod when it comes out; the date for that is to be determined! Be on the lookout on all of our socials for updates about the mod, the most important one being our twitter! Hopefully, I can make these monthly progress updates consistent.
