I've been reading the incredibly insightful comments on this poll.
The consensus is that people love making and playing fangames. Fangames around a single IP, in this case Five Nights at Freddy's, provides a sense of community for people to create, share and enjoy content within.
You might remember my very awkward ted talk about how important I believe fangames are in the shaping of the games industry. While I had hoped IP holders would embrace the blood, sweat and tears that their fans or their "consumers" pour into fan creations, they have not.
That got me thinking...
At Game Jolt we have amazing mascots with their own lore created by the incredibly talented @KniteBlargh .
What if we (together via a poll) choose one for all of you to create your own games around?
(My vote is Blobcat, obviously)
Building fangames for someone else's IP is often times discouraging because you can't sell the game or sell merch around your own creations.
What if I, (Game Jolt) let you? We can come up with a simple rev share agreement.
Not only that but what if, similar to Scott Cawthon, I (Game Jolt) publish the ones people love the most?
This is by no means an announcement of any kind. I just want to start a dialogue and see if this is even something you guys would want to do...
I personally think it could be a lot fun if the entire community got involved in it.
