Here to Eternity was my first idea I ever had for a video game. I was 15 (2004) and becoming horribly depressed with the current state of RPGs. This was about time the great ‘RPG shift’ was begining to happen. The industry saw how well received games like KOTOR and Fable had been and started drifting away from the classic turn based combat of yester year. So, as a young teenager I felt it was my duty to keep tradition alive.
Skip ahead 10 years.
I finally decide to start my journey as a developer, but with no programming knowledge or artistic skill to speak of, my options were slim. I picked up RPG Maker VX Ace and began working away at my childhood dream.
Skip ahead 6 months.
I no longer have to work 40+ hours a week in order to support myself, and therefore I have a lot more time to dedicate to indie development. I have began learning how to code with Javascript and C# and how to draw my own sprites. I am no longer bound to using RPGMVXA.
During the week I spend close to 30 hours working on my other, 100% original work, Vardrik. I only get to work on Here to Eternity on the weekends. It has become more of a hobby than my goal. I want to make ORIGINAL work, not something built from ‘a game within a game.’
The point of the matter is that while development WILL CONTINUE for H.T.E, it is something I do in my free time. Development will be slower than intended, but it is still something I care about very much, therefore, it will get done.
:D
And that is my rant.
