Hi everyone!
El here, I wanted to talk a bit about the future of Reimagined, why the silence, and when's the next Devlog coming, so here we go!
Why the silence?
There's 2 main reasons for it:
1) There hasn't been enough progress on the project for us to make any kind of special announcement/teaser recently, and to sum up why:
I just don't really like to make UT content anymore.
And 2) Between dramas that have happened in the community (Like the one about Quin's GameJam), and overall a weird sense that I have to follow certain rules to make an UT Fangame...
(Most notably in mechanics, characters, etc)
I've just found myself not really having fun making UT/DR-Related content anymore, and after working on an indie project for a while now, I realized that a large part of my frustration was because of the creative constrictions of making an UT Fangame, which I already tried to push aside a bit, by making very different stuff, like making it so that in most of the game you had a dash, even in the OW.
And also, I'm gonna be honest, directing large teams is not my thing.
That being said though, I've never really liked the idea of a project getting cancelled, but it is true that I most likely won't make a full game about something that I don't really enjoy doing...
So, I thought of a solution!
The future of Reimagined.
Reimagined will no longer be a full playable game.
However, since I don't want anyone's work on the project to go to waste, we're going to make 2 things...
1) DUSTTALE Reimagined will be turned into a SPRITE COMIC.
As of writing this, we're already working on a page so that you can read it as chapters release.
Note that this comic will only contain the PACIFIST ROUTE, but if we see enough people interested in it, we might consider making the BETRAYAL ROUTE, but as said, that's not a guarantee.
2) The SoundCloud account will stay up, and in fact we're planning to keep releasing more songs as chapters of the comic release!
I know that some of you were REALLY expecting the full game to be released, but as I said before, I cannot bring myself up to work on a project that I don't have fun making anymore.
When's the next Devlog coming?
Well, since the game's no longer happening, I think that devlogs are going to be switched up a ton, but starting off, next devlog will release ALONGSIDE chapter 1 of the sprite comic.
The idea is to release a mini-devlog between chapters to kind of show what we're working on for the next chapter, and to release a big devlog alongside the newest chapter, and some behind the scenes in the process of developing them, coming up with ideas, concept art, etc.
To finish things off...
This WASN'T an easy decision, I always hated the idea of cancelling a project, specially after seeing how many people were interested in it to start with, but I think it's the right choice for my mental health, and for the state of the project.
Thank you for reading, and I hope that y'all have had a nice christmas! :)
