So you guys remember back in February 2019 when I revealed I was working on a new secret project, and how I wasn't going to be talking about what it was until it was 100% finished? Well, with Five Nights at Nutty's: Rebooted now in the works and taking up all the attention, I think I should speak out about it a little since, after production on that game began, my marketing plans for the top secret project have changed. And to be clear, I'm not planning on revealing anything major about the game here. I haven't done so since I announced it, despite what some of you may think. Let me explain.
On National Nut Day 2019, I made a devlog celebrating the day and reflecting back on FNAN 2's development. In particular, I mentioned how I had a habit of secretly uploading teasers early to the FNAN 2 website. This was to intentionally lead people to check out the site, where I had uploaded a secret teaser for my next fangame, and attached to the image's description in the Imgur link was "Project Macadamia". However, this was never a true teaser for the game. It was designed as a misdirect.
The main idea behind marketing for the game was that I wouldn't reveal anything about it until 100% release, when I would do a reveal stream to play the trailer for the game, scheduled for release a week from then. However, until then, little "hints" would be dropped about the game that, over time, would slowly make it blatantly obvious what the game was. What was it? Five Nights at Nutty's 3, based off of an old idea I had for how it'd play out involving the nightmares of both Donald Acker and Aidan Blackwells. One of these hints did indeed involve the Project Macadamia teaser on the website.
So, what happened? Why am I now revealing my cards? Well, FNAN:R. With it in the works and offering a completely new take on the FNAN series, there isn't really much of a reason to go back to the old series and make a third one. One could even argue that FNAN:R is the third one, since it's an entirely different game from FNAN 1. On top of this, I also attempted the "stream reveal" idea with FNAN:R on April Fools, but that blew up spectacularly in my face. The stream was extremely laggy and made playing the video a nightmare, so I had to suck it up and play it as a premiere instead. Since I wanted to do something like that for Project Macadamia but more complicated, it was too big a risk. It wouldn't be possible. All of the marketing would've lead to that moment, and it was unlikely to work.
And so, here we are. Outside of something of an official title for it now, Project Macadamia is officially entirely back in the dark again. It's on hiatus until we're done with our work on FNAN:R, whether it's in the form of a finished game or a cancellation. Though I will warn you right now, don't get your hopes up for PM. It was never meant to be anything big anyways. It was always a smaller project. It won't exactly blow you away. Though speaking of the one teaser made for it, I may as well give away that the character in it was concept arted by Doctor Raven and modelled by MrNobody. It was actually this collaboration that sparked the idea of FNAN:R in the first place, so, that's something! Oh yeah, speaking of, if you're wondering what FNAN:R is up to, well...
