Hi. I know I haven't been posting so often recently. In one way, my game is done, but in another way, I don't feel comfortable releasing it yet. At this point, I don't think I can sell it.
...but why am I posting this instead? Well, as a creator, I feel like I can share with you some ideas that didn't go anywhere. Much. I mean, I could give you all the script to Staff of Laria, but I already did that, as far as I can remember.
What is Project AXY (AnXietY)?
Well, here's the idea: If I had Unreal Engine, much less knew how to use it, this would probably be the first thing I'd make. That, and a fully 3D Vectorman game, but let's go with this first. It's meant to be in a pseudo-cyberpunk future, and my focus, thematically, was how to make furries a thing in a future world.
...or, more accurately, Anthros, as they're termed in-game.
It's meant to be a survival horror/shooter of sorts, starring a girl and her fuzzy therapy Anthro. Tamara Axelrod, the girl, is based on Scarlett Johansson (circa 2017), and Kline the therapy Anthro was probably based on some XBox character who was realistic and furry. Also, as the main character is Tamara, she has occasional panic attacks, which could mess with the gameplay.
...sounds good on paper, if you don't screw up the writing.
Anthros
Strangely, this was what I focused on the most when writing the story for it.
With the power of science, people started off with enhancing service animals, to make them talk. Then cloning, and mixing and matching. As the biotech wars escalated (so to speak- there's no real war here), this led to the creation of Anthros.
Of course, the creation of Anthros is bound to have some side effects, and some interesting trial-and-error results. The worst results, never publicly sold to the masses or military, are called Chimeras, which are essentially animalistic monstrosities.
With the advent of Anthros, there arose Anthro Control and Anthro rights groups. Anthro Control pretty much take care of any Anthro-related problem, and occasionally take them to the Pound. Anthro rights groups, well, are exactly what they sound like, and occasionally become easy victims of Chimeras.
Tamara, of course, is part of Anthro Control in Neo-Detroit. Namely, a special division called the Extreme Situation Fighting Force. Yes, the XSF Force, if you've been paying attention. No relation to the other canned title, XSF Force, beyond the pun name. Essentially, they're around when things really go wrong with Anthros, especially with Chimeras.
So, what's the story?
Tamara had been taken off the force for a while due to her panic issues. However, since the XSF Force is running low on manpower, Tamara's been reinstated.
We start off in an old AniTech facility. Besides some animalistic Anthros and Chimeras, they find a video recorder, and two people: Scott, an XSF Force officer, and Bill, an Anthro Rights groupie.
Apparently, the Anthro Rights people let a few Anthros loose, not knowing how dangerous they were. Tamara's put on assignment to investigate AniTech undercover, as a "teenage" girl studying Anthros for a school project, under the name Diane Lawson.
This leads to an info dump about the history of Anthros at AniTech, while leaving out the facts about what happens when things go wrong in the process. Speaking of which, things DO go wrong when a wolf Anthro escapes the lab.
...then there's an outbreak of Chimeras at a supermarket, and only Tamara can stop it.
...NOW comes the part where I think I went off-the-rails in writing this. I wrote the first draft in 2017, and my personal views have changed since. Some of this may be uncomfortable.
Later, the XSF Force hear about more Anthro rights people releasing more Chimeras from a video. Their only clue is the name "Blue Princess". Tamara identifies that name with an old friend of hers called Rachel Azure, who works at a nightclub called The Last Chance.
Tamara gets into the nightclub with a little sexual energy, and she meets Rachel backstage. (By the way, Rachel is a human with blue skin. Not my best idea, at all, especially when you learn certain details.) They trade stories, and Rachel teases Tammy over her anxiety issues. At best, Tammy gets a bunch of names of other companies that Anthro rights activists have been freeing Anthros from.
Eventually, the XSF Force traces the video talking about the Blue Princess to the Hartwood Woods. Tamara goes looking around there, and finds a cabin full of wild Anthros. One of them is a Chimera, referred to as Doberman. He admits an Anthro rights supporter released him, but there are more dangerous Chimeras out there, thanks to the Anthro rights people.
Doberman says he comes from a PlatoDNA facility, so her next assignment is undercover over there. While everyone there is saying "Everything's fine," everything is clearly NOT fine, with all the wild Anthros and Chimeras wandering about the premises. Also, someone's been collecting DNA samples, if the Anthros are anything to go by.
With that bit of info, they narrow down their search to three Anthro development companies. However, one of those companies, Epsilon, had their DNA-regen equipment stolen. Upon further investigation, they learn that the DNA samples of a scorpion, hawk, snake, and wolf have been stolen. Also, a familiar voice is heard in one of the XSF Force's videos: The Blue Princess, Rachel Azure.
So, Tamara goes to arrest Rachel herself at The Last Chance nightclub. It starts off casually to avoid any suspicion, but then she calls Rachel out on it, fully aware that she would do things like that. Rachel's two Anthro bodyguards cause a bit of trouble, but Tammy catches Rachel in the end.
So, what would Rachel want with releasing a bunch of rogue Anthros, DNA, and a DNA-regen device? Well, prove her "Anthro Master Race" theory and create an ultimate Chimera, of course.
...yeah, the story's a mess. I have a summary and a full script. Also, I wanted to play with video game storytelling with this one, like how Goldeneye 007 expected you to follow the script, or instantly fail the mission.
...but dang it, it's MY mess.
