I made this article about the things I noted on the games:

Super Mario Bros.: Visual enhancements, better ans still iconic music, save system working on the start of every world, new sprites for the enemies, and differences between Luigi and Mario besides the sprites.

Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels: Along with the mentioned before, the save system works for each level instead of each world, making the game a lot easier.

Super Mario Bros. 2: We have the save system per world and the colors made the levels much more beautiful.

Super Mario Bros. 3: Visual enhancements to the entire game, and the save system per world at the start of them.
