Hello everyone, I'm Evan, known as Evan Games & EvanYT Channel, and welcome back to Review Everything! Reviewing anything I can do.
In that last review, I told you guys there'll be two movie reviews in one month and this is one of them.
This is the first movie to ever get a short review, and this is also one of my anticipated movies of the year. In this short review, there'll be no plot section, not gonna show you how the production was made (Except Cinematography), so you guys better watch it only at a Theatre near you before it's too late.
Released In Theatrical, July 12th
Longlegs is a 2024 American horror thriller film written and directed by Osgood Perkins. It stars Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, who also produced the film through his Saturn Films production company. The cast also features Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, and Dakota Daulby in supporting roles. The film follows an FBI agent tasked with tracking down an occultist serial killer, whom she realizes she has a personal connection to.
Movies are not all about money, how the story goes, or how far the rabbit hole goes, but it's all about the camera movement or Cinematography.
Principal photography took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, from January 16 to February 23, 2023, with Andrés Arochi serving as cinematographer. With the combination of 35mm and 8mm, the storyline makes sense because it was mixed between the main storyline and a vision storyline.
spoiler alert: That 4:3 aspect ratio was a vision backstory of how they got killed and became murderous. Still loves how the aspect ratio changes from 4:3 to 16:9, kinda think this is a nice way to switch over the storyline
Greg Ng & Graham Fortin nailed the editing right here, the effects are amazing, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the lighting perfectly fits in the horror genre. Those posters inspire me to do these kinds of posters, that's why they look empty and mysterious.
Not only the posters, but also the trailers left you confused and want you to figure out what is going on, that's why Oz is a genius at marketing, lots of teasers, and 3 official trailers, but they still make you not know what's happening.
There are many teaser trailers out there, it said that Nick was in this movie but in trailers? no no no, he ain't there, even the "Heartbeat" promotion trailer still can't reveal who he is and what he is supposed to be (I mean, he's the Longlegs but still).
NEON has uploaded the new teaser titled "Look Closer" which shows almost all scenes that include the demon itself appearing and disappearing in the distance, I didn't know he was there when I watched the film until this little teaser. I love it when movies do this, they hide something from behind or even in front, and that demon is everywhere, just like Longlegs says.
There are exactly 25 soundtracks in Longlegs OST, made by Elvis "Zilgi" Perkins. He is the soundtrack composer and he nailed the horror soundtracks, those 25 OSTs are pretty hidden and almost silent in the entire movie, just like all terrifying films; "Babadook", "The Silence of the Lambs", and "Hereditary", those are the example of the soundtracks.
They've also used T.Rex song called "Bang a Gong (Get it On)" for the credits, that's the song I've been listening to all day until the day I'm watching the actual film.
There were contributing tracks by sound designer Eugenio Battaglia and Melody Carrillo with Elizabeth Wight, these guys made the loud sound jumpscare from the trailers, where the man hands down his face to reveal himself but the trailer cuts to another scene so we can't see, very effective btw.
Top Cast:
Maika Monroe as Lee Harker
Lauren Acala as young Lee
Nicolas Cage as Longlegs
Blair Underwood as Agent Carter, Lee's superior
This one's my favorite, Nick Cage is always one on my "good actor list" of all time (he is still in), his performance as a serial killer was incredible and weird at the same time, all clips, all teasers, all trailers, he was never seen or caught, like I said, he ain't there. He is not actually terrifying but he's making everyone, the audience uncomfortable because of his performance and everything, it makes me and everyone else feel afraid.
Maika is also a good actress, she's the main character in Longlegs, when she sees Nicholas Cage in makeup for the first time, her heartbeat rises quickly to 170 bpm, her regular heartbeat was at 70, that's the promotion trailer I was talked about, that short clip made me nervous and afraid, it also made me wants to see what he looks like on the big screen.
We're off to the last section pretty quickly, is it because this is a short review? yes, yes it is. So, anything you've read still sounds like a riddle to you, and you never know what is going on, since I've already watched it, let's see what I've seen in the movie.
The plot is good, but quite slow in the middle of the film, it also almost made me confused at first to see the teasers, trailers, and secret coded cryptic message, but I finally figured it out after, the cinematography was pretty nice and pretty satisfying, the editing, the lighting is just perfection for it, the soundtracks are also pretty nice, and the acting, Nicky Cage nailed for this one. Extra Score for the marketing though.
Finally, the "scariest movie of the decade" is given:
an average 7.9/10
"The marketing made the movie overhyped, but this movie is still enjoyable for the people who like this kind of stuff like The Silence of The Lambs, American Psycho and more movies that I mentioned earlier"
For the grade, I might give it:
A-
"fair and square"
LONGLEGS received positive reviews from critics, On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes:
86% of 218 critics' reviews are positive,
with an average rating of 7.6/10The website's consensus reads:
"Saturated in disquieting mood while leveraging a nightmarishly gonzo performance by Nicolas Cage, Longlegs is a satanic horror that effectively instills panic."
Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of:
77 out of 100, based on 50 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews
Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of:
"C+" on an A+ to F scale
while those polled by PostTrak gave it a:
70% overall positive score,
with an average 3 out of 5 stars
CONCLUSION

And I also gotta do a game review on the 9th Episode, again, not gonna spoil it until the announcement, so you have to wait. Thank you for reading one or two reviews, I hope the comeback was worth it for you, I mean, it still looks the same but that's fine. I'll see you guys again in the 9th Episode ;)
