Royal Bones Faded Failure - Puzzles Update - 3/22/18 Update


Hello, and welcome to a Royal Bones Faded Failure update. Today you’ll see new puzzles and see some other new things in Faded Failure

Over the last few days it has been snowing a lot. This has given me a lot of time to code RBFF. A lot of progress has been made, so I think it’s time to show them. Lets see what’s in the puzzles department. Lets go through a room with several puzzles.

In this room we can see two things. One is a pressure plate and one is a strange looking Walter. We can just press the pressure plate like normal and usually something will happen.

The weird looking Walter is something known as a Walter clone. They look a little bit off and are needed for puzzles. You can press ‘Z’ to make them get up and walk around. However, they will return to their original location if
A. If a random encounter happens, they will get scared and go back to their original location.
B. If you leave the room then they won’t follow.
or C. They get killed off. This can happen in different ways. For example, touching water kills them.
In order to get past random encounters and stuff like water, you got to look around. You could possible find a drain in the water so they don’t have to touch any water. In this example, a switch will make it so random encounters get turned off for a minute as an alarm noise scares the monsters off.

Oh snap! We’re on a timer! You got to get to all the Walter Clones and get them to a specific pressure plate.
We find one in a hallway.

He joins us as we march down to the lower room where we find these two.

They join us and we head for the upper right section where we are greeted with our fifth and final Walter clone and our final destination. The red “5” pressure plate can only be triggered by 5 clone Walters and the original Walter.

Alright, Walter clones! Step on the button!

Victory! The switch is flipped. When the timer runs out, random encounters will return and we will automatically be thrown into combat. Our Walter clone group will go back to their original places. But, we got to the button.
In the same room, we can see four other buttons.

This is the ordered button puzzle. You must press the buttons in the correct order. Obviously it’s 1, 2, and then 3. After pressing them in the correct order, press the yellow button. If you pressed the buttons in the correct order, then something should happen.

Later on this puzzle will not be numbered. It might be colored and you have to find the solution somewhere else.
That’s all the new puzzles we’ve created, but there’s a few more things worth mentioning.
With the original engine, there was no transition between rooms. I thought it looked kind of ugly so I added one! I can’t really show this with a picture, so take my word. Also, we started working on the battle engine. We have Froggut’s battle done and it’s pretty good. Next devlog will probably show what’s different in the battle system. That’s all I have to say on our progress in the last few days. Have a good one, and I’ll see you in the next devlog.

Question Of The Day : Do you like the style of devlog that we did today? Where we go through a test area with new features and walkthrough whats new and how to complete things? Coming back?! I've recently started working on this game again after a couple years, and progress on the engine is going rather smoothly! I'd hopefully like to get this game going hard, which might be hard with school starting, but oh well! See you soon!
