I’m glad you asked! Because you did ask, didn’t you? :P
I’m planning to keep this game as it is now and make a sequel.
Gameplay
I’d like to keep the current gameplay and expand it with more options to make the game deeper. I’d like to keep the current controls for the game, just swap the repair button with a repair/interact button. I’m thinking to add mechanical-related activities: instead of just running and repairing around the cogwheels, you will also build, rearrange, overcharge, scrap… I’d like to add visible enemies that can be defeated, mechanical-powered weapons and defenses that may be attached to the gears to fight those enemies.
I’d like to say more about the gameplay but at the moment it’s all just in my head and I want to test it out and see how it will actually work.
Story and background
The main character will be the same, the story will pick up with it falling from the clock tower. I already have an idea of how the main plot will be and how the world will look like, but again… I’m not sure enough to say more.
Also, i want to spoil it the least possible. I love telling stories and I always try to tell a story in the games I make. The only thing I can say is that we are probably going to visit “Clockworld”, whatever it means :P
When it’s going to happen?
Don’ expect anything too soon… I’ll start working on it today or tomorrow but it will require time. I’m aiming for far more than 5 minutes of gameplay and I can’t sustain the game jam pace of work. I usually sleep, have a full time job, spend time with my wife and my friends… it may be ok to spend less time in these activities for a week but not for some months :P
I’ll try to post screenshot and news as I work on it, so if you want to know more just follow me here or on Twitter!
How it’s going to happen?
I will keep the game HTML5 and I’m going to keep using Phaser. I work with web stuff since a long time and Phaser is a solid framework that I’ve used for many of my games. Moreover, HTML5 games can be played on virtually anything that has a browser.
Nonetheless, not all browsers are the same. I’m going to try using nwjs (formerly known as node-webkit) for the first releases. Basically, it makes an executable out of a web page and uses a minimal version of Chromium to display it. It also gives the possibility to handle files, sockets and all that kind of things that are not usable from a regular HTML5 game.
Well, that’s all for now. Sorry for the long post! If you got any questions, just ask, I’ll be glad to answer!
