It kindas does things... wrong? Or at least, out of order
One thing about intimidation in games is, taking the basic design and strategies the player has been using all throughout the game, and make them useless
Berny is Fire Powered? Frank throws a bottle of dirty water
You used the chairs? Frank gets angry and breaks them
You used the taser? Get tiger suplex'ed, bitch!
And don't get me wrong, that is cool... but it was also done too early
These type of things are better saved for the final boss, something like... uuugh, Arnold (I can never escape)
All throughout the game, Taunt+Roll with Joel has probably been the player's main strategy
And what happens when you try it with Arnold? He removes Dodge from Joel and drains his SP
That's cool, and really makes the player understand that Arnold is different from others enemies
And (iirc) nothing like that happens anywhere else in the game, making it even more special and intimidating
The problem with it happening with Frank is... it happens in Chapter goddamn One
If in the next chapter, the boss also breaks your chairs or removes fire from Berny, it won't be a suprise, meaning, it won't be as intimidating
And you can 100% believe me with that, I watched like, 3 videos on Intimidating Game design
