welcome to the first ever sp!dusttale don't forget devlog πŸ₯”

this devlog won't be covering any real game progress, rather its meant to inform yall of my plans and general direction i plan on taking with this project

I'll be covering multiple points of interest so feel free to read and comment on whatever you care most about πŸ₯”


β€’ 1: changing the name from "sp!dusttale df" to "sppa!dusttale df"

in case you didn't know the SP in sp!dusttale stands for SPrins, the creator of the AU

so SPPA in sppa!dusttale stands for SPrinsPAtatachoda, the reason why i feel like i have to change the name is because the game has evolved past just an sp!dusttale fan game, so much so that there's probably more inspiration coming from blasphemous (more on that later) then sp!dusttale itself

now i didn't want to remove SPrins from the name hence why it's "sppa" not just "pa" for the simple reason that SPrins's involvement in the creative process is still VERY present, to put it simply the same way sp!dusttale is a derivation from dusttale

sppa!dusttale will be a derivation of sp!dusttale

i don't really care that much about the name, if yall think i should keep the old one then i will but for now "sppa!dusttale don't forget" feels like the best option πŸ₯”


β€’ 2: the differences between SP!dusttale and SPPA!dusttale

so basically, a lot

the first big difference between the 2 would be the lack of Christian imagery, the game will still be carrying the same vibes of like a corrupt/demonic religion I'm just not going to reference Christianity or any other religion specifically, kinda like what blasphemous does (again, more on that later)

so in case your worried this game won't be carrying the same charms of the original sp!dusttale... don't, cz I'd even argue this take got A LOT MORE disturbing cult like shit compared to the original AU.

another big difference between the 2 would be the story, there still very similar both revolving around the necroptosis, sans going crazy and torturing monsters

THIS take though will explore the journey to how/why sans went mad more then anything else, i don't wanna spoil too much but ye that's all you gonna get for now πŸ₯”

the game will also have 2 endings, one witch follows the original sp!dusttale story more accurately and the other being more original

the game will also have 3 battles in total, witch may not sound like a lot but that would be because these battles only account for like 5% of the game, witch leads me to the next subject


β€’ 3: metroidvania (WHY THE HELL DID I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA????)

ye so after the first battle (the one yall played already) my stupid potato brain thought maybe making a mini metroidvania like OW could be a cool original fun idea!

yea maybe for yall BUT NOT FOR ME at first it was manageable, i was going for a pretty low scale map with a pretty straight forward story plan

BUT NOT ANYMORE to give you an idea of how fucked i am, i went from "a map shouldn't be necessary for the player" to "there ain't no way the player gonna be able to navigate the world without a map" the scale of the world got so much bigger that i HAD to add a way to fast travel, and that's all WITHOUT mentioning all the events and cut scenes scattered ALL around the map

so ye, I'm fucked πŸ₯”

the world isn't going to be as big as something like hollowknight or blasphemous (AGAIN more on that later) but it's still REALLY big specially for a fan game

oh and you'll be playing as sans in this one aaaand there's about 30+ different enemies planned so far πŸ₯”

β€’ 4: blasphemous and other inspirations

the metroidvania part will be VASTLY inspired by another metroidvania game named blasphemous, a lot of the movement and fighting system is based on blasphemous while still getting a little twist

the same way blasphemous gives the concept of guilt a lot of importance, this game will be confronting sans's guilt cz of all the killing he's done

if you wanna get the closest idea to what i wanna do with the metroidvania part, then just Google blasphemous or something fair warning tho

blasphemous is a pretty bloody game so keep that in mind πŸ₯”

the game got also a lot of inspiration from sp!dusttale obviously and not so obviously i will be taking a slight inspiration from an anime named re:zero, not taking much from it except for the way it handles death

basically re:zero is one of the few shows that don't lowe ball the pain of death and how traumatic it can be, so ye i'll be trying to give death as much substance as re:zero does

oh and "i have no mouth but i must scream" or something like that was also a big inspiration πŸ₯”


β€’ 5: the games progress

sooo ye the game won't be getting any progress for at least 2 months from now, i haven't been programming anything for a long time now cz I've been too busy studying for my final exam

after that tho i will be picking up the slack and make as much progress as i can πŸ₯”

I'm also still searching for team members, i have 2 artists and a writer so far but i still need a lot more help art and music wise specially cz of the metroidvania side of things
