Hey everybody!! Here I come with the second part for the spooky devlog. Wasn't this supposed to come out like a week ago? Yup, but I decided to make it bigger and add a teaser trailer. Let's get right into it!
The Baker: Redesigned
When I originally conceived The Baker, I had an idea, he'd have to be the most terrifying character in the game thanks to a transformation. That is still present in his original poster, the red stuff around his eye, but it didn't work. It looked cheap, wasn't scary, it wasn't original, it wasn't what I truly envisioned. I wanted to do something much crazier but what if the audience wouldn't like it? I should hold back, right?
So I kept the design the same. Despite its many flaws, I liked it, but it didn't lend well to my vision.
Then, I started rewriting the script, over and over. The structure, the main story, it stayed the same, yet ideas changed. I let crazy ideas take over for one, leading to glory, to the true story I want to tell.
Color was a big part in that, there's a lot of symbolism through color in Melodies and then I went back to my original idea for The Baker. A character in black and white, who has lost all humanity, who has lost all hope. Hopeless, it wouldn't just be represented by red tendrils, but by a full color change. A transformation into a monster. Why? You'll have to find out yourself.
The old design just didn't lend itself to this iteration of the story, it didn't work. So I worked on a redesign:
And here he was, in all his glory.
THE BAKER
The Hopeless Baker
What you see in the teaser trailer is The Hopeless Baker, a desaturated version of the character. As for his mechanic, there is a big hint towards it in the trailer. As of now, enjoy this poster:
The Stage
Probably the most important camera in any Five Nights At Freddy's game, the stage.
This is the only camera where you can zoom in order too see it in more detail. Keep in mind, it's slightly unfinished as of right now!
The Car
Jeremy's car serves as the lobby for the game, where you select the nights and play through them.
You can also listen to the radio, it might have some important information or just some cool music.
The car got redesigned since the last time you saw it:
Old version
New version:
I don't know how to post gameplay videos into an article so I'll just show that gameplay in a later post.
Moving forward
Like pieces of a puzzle, all my work is finally starting to piece together. Up next, I'll be rushing to finish the map while keeping the high quality it has been having for now. Office gameplay will be almost completely finished shortly after, except for paranormal events which won't get added after much later. This means work on the post night minigames will start right after, with all the locations already made, it won't take too long. While working on the minigames, I'll start casting the missing voices for the game, most importantly, Jeremy, and animating every cutscene. There is still a lot left to do, but the game is closer than you could ever imagine.
Have an amazing Halloween!! (And play Alan Wake 2, I'm working on a review and explanation for it, might be the best game I've ever played)
