Tbs war/strategy design time.


I have been spending a lot of hours thinking of how to do the warfare ai for my civ like games. In professional games the ai is not very good. I understand why. I almost have had no workable ideas on how to let the ai behave more human. how do you turn a human strategy into code. You have a terrain and the human player makes it defended and creatEs’ force’s to conquer the other player.

I have been thinking of how the ai player can create a defensive position/lines. I have almost no iDeas on how to create a line of units that take into account the terrain with the other players. I had the idea to find tiles short distance to other units. But how to make the lines safe against breakthroughs and encirclement is hard to find useable iDea’s for.

I think that my tbs games wil not be playable for a long. time. I do not want boring ai so I wil not make a game with simpler ai. I hope that the next 10 years a number of Books and articles wil appear where I can learn from how to make the fun ai.

if I need to design it myself I wil probably not get very far with the ai. The pro’s cant do it now so I wil not be able to either.

I do have ideas that worked though and I wil use those in the future. One was a feature to let the computer use your units to attack the enemy. Automated conquest. This I wil develop further.

i am not sure on how to use modern ai techniiques with strategy games. I am sure I am not alone with that. Civilization 5 had a lot of complaints About the ai. if you build up your force’s how do you see that with code. It is hard to figure something like that. How do you make a line to defens against a threat. i wil spend years on thinking About that.

if you read this and have working ai for strategy games why not make a tutorial or example code for a blog or something. There is so little to be found in 2014. I try to publish as much as i can so that it might help others to make better games that I can then play. you might even get a few hundred hits per item per Year. Thats a little advertising incomE. I have had close to 30000 hits for my game example code blog for 200 items in 3 years. Thats maybe 200 dollars in advertising money that I could of earned. Idea?

i wil keep trying to create code for games. I might create a game for gamejolt in the future. Probably a platformer though as that is what is easier.
