OCTOBER UPDATE:

The game got delayed until further notice, it's not cancelled nor in haitus, just got delayed.

By the time I'm writting this devlog (half of September) I'm still working on the forest zone. The internal deadline for the update is October 20th, which is gonna be a week before the public release.

I have the bad habit of shadowdropping my projects or whatever I do but this time people are actually looking foward to my game so I felt like making a small devlog announcing the release date and answering every possible question people could have about it.

Be aware, this is gonna be a very short devlog.

So let's begin!

"What exactly are you going to release?"

I'm gonna release the Test 1 remake that I announced last devlog as a 1.7.0 update called "The Experiements & Ideas update".

It's been in development for quite some time and while still being a short experience it will contain every new feature I've been working for the game.

The update will contain:

• Test 1 remake

• New temporaly title screen with 3 save files

The update will NOT contain:

• Test 2

• Old Test 1

• Cake mode

• Unannounced content

"What's gonna happen before the release of the update?"

A lot actually.

I'm in the process of re-designing the gamejolt page and once the update is done I'm gonna give a pre-release version to a few group of people.

Then I'm gonna playtest the game to death bugfixing everything until I can't force myself to see the color green anymore.

If everything works as expected the update will release at October 27th at... any time of the day.

"Why do I need to play this update?"

Depper Jar is pratically a new game now, the gameplay has been massively improved with tons of new features and changes to the formula.

I had to make the Test 1 remake out of necessary, it's pretty much a tutorial for the rest of the game and sets the stone for what's about to come.

If you never tried the game before or kept waiting for Test 2, now it'll be a good time to try the game.

"What's gonna happen when/after the release of the update?"

When the update finally releases I'm also gonna upload a smaller devlog talking about future updates for the game, the new Cake-mode and more unannounced content.

The new OST of the game will also be uploaded on Soundcloud on the same day.

"What about Test 2?"

Because of the Test 1 remake development, Test 2 has been on a big hiatus since the start of the 2024, but that is actually a good thing!

I was not happy with what I was going for and a lot has changed ever since. Every good idea that I had for the gameplay it's already in the Test 1 remake too!

I'm not sure when Test 2's development will resume again but I'll probably just shadowdrop a devlog in 2025 saying smth like "guys look I added a gameplay feature that took me 8 months to make for some reason".

"What's gonna happen to YOU after the release of the update?"

(Warning: this section of the devlog doesn't have much to do with the game and I also talked a lot about my personal life, if you feel unconfortable reading this skip to the end.)

I don't know for sure what's gonna happen to me.

I'm an adult now (about to be 19 years old in a few weeks) and just started college very recently, I also don't have the same amount of free time like I used to. But theres more to it.

My life style sucks, and is really bad for my physical and mental health. I've always been like this since I was a kid but I don't even have a reason to keep living like this anymore.

This doesn't have anything to do with my passion for game development, I still love making my things and Depper Jar is my favorite project, I just never got my priorities right.

I still am on my pc all day 'till 4 am, I still spend most of my life on my bedroom, I still lose myself in made-up scenarios on my head, I still spend most of my time alone.

So I wanna be better, I wanna get a job, I wanna leave my house from time to time, I wanna get responsibilities, I wanna do more. I don't like being like this anymore.

Game dev is still what I want to be my future, but I want it in a healthier way, y'know?

Conclusion

So, in conclusion to this very short devlog:

• Test 1 remake releases on October 27th

• Test 2's development resumes next year
