for some reason, when the Ludum Dare 32 was announced its theme as ‘unconventional weapon’, i thought about eggs and a frying pan. for some reason unknown to me. maybe i was a bit i high at the time. i dont recall smoking anything…
it first started that i wanted the initial concept of the game to be guided by a map of some sort and that map would guide us througout the game. it would tell us that we need to find something to defeat monsters. and we find this frying pan, and it doesnt work on it. and we find a stove so we need to find something to cook with. so it guides to find some eggs so that we need to bring the eggs to the stove, cook it for some time, and then throw it at the monster.
and that was the initial idea of the game. i spend like half of the first day developing that particular idea.
and i thought it might be too complex. even for me to develop. so i thought, why not just give the frying pan to him. why not just have him already with the pan and the stove and the eggs as well. so he’ll start off able to throw the eggs already.
so that’s what i did. i kinda rescraped the whole project. made an entirely new one. and the idea of having him tosing the eggs backwards kinda makes it even more challenging so i stuck with the idea.
and then it was finished. people were playing my games. and they were having fun for some of them. the idea that you feed the enemies enough eggs until they explode is kinda funny for some reason.
though i got some feedbacks which i will try to address it at this very moment. the one thing was the controls. it was a bit confusing, i know. i watched how many people struggled to understand how the game actually works and before they even knew what was happening, they already died. so i’ll try to adjust the controls and maybe the camera so that it’ll make more sense.
i wanted more sound effects and animation effects for the enemy for everytime we actually hit it. it’ll bring a lot more depth to it as for now its just a red circle with no identity to it. i still havent figure out what the enemy is actually. it could be a giant meatball or a giant ball of human flesh or something. hopefully itll work out.
im thinking of segregating the game into levels so that there is a learning curve to understand how the game works before actually facing off hoardes of red balls.
well that was it.
i want to thank the KDU game fratenity to accomdate all of us game jamers who was present the 2 days we were there. it was a fun experience having to make games in a room where everyone is making games as well for 2 days straight.
i want to keep on doing this for the rest of my life. i wish that this was actually my main job to be honest. but hey, someone needs to pay the bills, right?
alright then. im gonna work on the issues of my game. will update when its done.
Assalamualaikum
