The Cardinal Crusade Devlog 1
Hello fellow gamejolt users and others. It is our hope that we´ll be able interest you and keep you updated on the progress of our game with these devlogs.
So for the first one, Im mainly going to talk about the general scope of the game, what it´s about and how long we have left until it´s finished.
The Cardinal Crusade is an action platforming game focused around exploration and storytelling. The game takes a lot of inspiration from games like Super mario world and Super Meatboy. The secret exits from Mario World is something that truly struck a cord with us and we have plans on how to take the concept to it´s extreme. The game will put you infront of tricky and challenging platforming obstacles while hopefully teaching the player the ropes of the game through a balanced difficulity curve.
The games story is planned to be told through the help of cutscenes, the enviroment and secrets hidden throughout the game. Although a platformer at heart, I cannot help but take inspiration from games like “La Mulana” and “Fez”, both offering deep and headscratchingly tricky puzzles to complement their gameplay.
The story itself is taking a lot of inspiration from the works of H.P Lovecraft while still remaining relativly humorous. It certainly has more substance than
the story in your averagemario game.
As of now, The Cardinal Crusade is set to have around 80 normal levels and 11 boss stages. As of now, we have finished 2 levels. This is mostly due to the fact that we have rewritten the game several times and spent considerably long working systems for the game: menues, level select, collectibles. A bucnh of stuff that is definetly needed but has taken a lot of time.
The Cardinal Crusade is an indie passion project which we hope to deliver to the world in 1-2 years. We are currently developing it on the side of uni / work. So that certainly helps prolong the dev time.
We hope to do these devlogs quite often to keep you updated when cool things are happening, if you are interested in keeping up to date with development, feel free to follow this gamepage or follow us on twitter.
See you around!
