There are many characters in Ephilar currently, but what are they and what do they do? Let’s have an overview!
Assassins (Count: 4):
Alacard: The (currently) only ranged Assassin. Can quickly switch between single target damage and Area of Effect damage.
Neraz: Saps life from his enemies by generating a Shield after Basic Attacks. Other skills allow him to boost his sustain even more.
Sel: ??? (Sel has a rework pending to give her a more defined role).
Spitfire: Great at consistent damage. Also is the only character who can dispel Magic effects (currently).
Casters (Count: 3):
Cyrin: Capable of applying many slows, and instant-killing Non-Boss enemies (Passive also allows for gaining high amounts of Mana).
Hyria: All about setting up her combos to deal insane damage. Her heroic allows for insane amounts of burst if she can get it off.
Phoenix: Phoenix’s Meltdown mechanic allows her to get Critical Hits more often than most of her allies.
Supports (Count: 8):
Daniel: Mainly spamming Basic Attacks to chip at enemies, Daniel shines once his allies start taking hits.
Eliana: Eliana passively supports allies just by being in the battle, but she can also sustain her allies with her other skills, and help them take down key targets.
Luna: Relying on the Lunar Phases to change how she functions, Luna can be drastically different just based on how long she’s been in battle.
Rayzon: Not actually a healer, Rayzon supports his allies by offering the ability to recharge their mana pools and reflect damage back at their enemies. Should an ally fall, he has a handy revive too.
Vex: Vex is the jack-of-all-trades. He has CC, Sustained damage, defense, shields, healing. He can do it all.
Xelth: Having the 2nd most Basic Skills out of any character, Xelth brings 2 different transformation states to the battle: Light and Shadow Form. Light Form offers support to allies, and Shadow Form offers damage options and debuffs.
Zivian: Zivian has one of the most powerful single target healing skills: Phasing Shield. It restores a portion of an ally’s HP and gives them a Shield for the amount restore. Outside of this, she passively gains more power and deals damage with her other skills.
Tanks (Count: 4):
Garen: Just by being in the battle, Garen attracts the attention of enemies. His defenses allow him to take many hits before going down, and his CC allows to reduce the hits he takes. His drawback lies in his Taunt. If he wants to make sure only he takes hits, he needs his Heroic to grant the Taunt effect.
Lily: Lily has 35% of Physical Damage taken staggered over the next few turns, which allows her to survive longer than most. She also has a short duration Taunt on a medium cooldown, allowing to draw in hits. Her drawback is built into the passive. Too much damage taken will cause the stagger to become unhealable and kill her.
Machwar: Machwar creates a Shield each turn equal to 20% of his max health. He can Overload the Shield to gain more Shields and Taunt. He also has the ability to deal Area of Effect damage and cause an enemy to hurt themselves with their attacks. His drawback is the lack of a huge healthpool like other tanks. He needs his Shields to survive. Once they’re down, he’s severely weakened.
Mitch: Mitch acts more as a Bruiser than a Tank. He can take a lot of damage and Taunt, but his damage can outshine some Assassins in the later stages of battle. His drawback is the inability to use his skills without first taking or dealing damage. He can take hits for the team, but may not be able to until he gets his Technique refined.
Now that that’s done…
…Clearly we have a couple small issues here.
First: There are 8 Supports vs the rest of the roles. 8 Supports, 7 DPS (Assassins and Casters), and 4 Tanks.
Second: Sel doesn’t have a well defined role. This is bad. While i did state that she has a rework pending to give her this role, she should have had one from the start.
So… What now?
All in all, this adds up to 19 currently playable characters, 18 have defined roles and 2 have pending reworks (Sel getting the major one).
We want to make sure that all future characters are unique and have a defined role from the start so reworks don’t need to be done later on
(Xelth and Luna are perfect examples of what all characters should strive to be day 1).
That being said, patch 0.9.5 will bring with it another damage dealer. We’ve been hard at work making sure they’re fun to use and not broken. We think we’ve struck a good balance, and they will act as a perfect replacement for a character we had to delay due to technical issues.
With that said, we hope to give you all with a video preview of the new character soon!
