A 2D indie horror game inspired by the Devil's Footprints in Devon, England (1855)
Concept:
Play a 8 years old child experiencing somthing surreal and terrifying in their snowy village. The game focuses on atmosphere, isolation and the feeling of being trapped in a world that's slowly unraveling
Everything you see, the supernatural, the disturbing, might just be illusions reflecting the child's fears. memories, or trauma. Nothing is funny explained, leaveing the mystery open-ended, just like the real Devil's Footprints
Gameplay:
Explore the village and surrounding areas following mysterious hoof prints
Interact with villagers and a mysterious hunter
Discover environmental storytelling: cryptic messages, strange changes in the world, and surreal transformations
Solve optional puzzles and uncover clues to piece together what’s happening
Experience subtle horror and suspense without jump scares, it’s all about mood and tension
This is still very much WIP, but I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback!
Theme: Isolation, surreal horror, mystery and the unexplained
Atmosphere: Snowy, dreamlike, unsettling and suspenseful
In short, LITW is about fear and the trauma caused by the unexplainable event "Devil's Footprints". An 8 year old child processes such things in a completely different way, and since it takes place in 1855, that also has a big influence on how people perceive events. This keeps the game open to unreal and disturbing elements, while also leaving the question of whether anything actually happened at all.
