Hello there,
today I'd like to talk about the greatest Roadblock that is slowing down development progress drastically (for now) : ART
Now, I do have a lot of understanding in the matters of art, be it what certain techniques do, how perspective works, whatever else and MOST IMPORTANTLY how to create an interesting and unique art style.
BUT I lack the skill to actually do something, yup... thats kinda embarrassing I know... . It's like having a buddy that knows how a car is build and can explain every little detail about it...without knowing how to drive. It's like knowing so much about complex physical and mathematical things like the relativity theory...yet being unable to calculate simple equations without external help.
So, what is one solo dev to do in that case?
Suck it up and learn the skills that one needs. Fu*k me I guess.
First on the list is learning how to break down the human body in simple shapes. The art style for my game will be low poly, thats for sure. It's more resource efficient, can be made faster and takes less skill to look god, it also leaves more space for the art style to shine through.
Here you may see the first, kinda "meh" attempt at such a low poly model.
*see cover image for this post*
Fun Fact: This is rendered in Blender, I use Linux, Blender doesn't use your GPU without some code magic. Fu*k me twice I guess...
So that's what I'll be doing for the next few weeks maybe even months.
I any of you can point out any tools, tutorials or resource, your help would very much be appreciated!
The only thing I do not accept or tolerate is anything AI (within the context of Art). Modern "AI", or whats called "AI" nowadays is just a giant algorithm that outputs whatever is most likely to follow in the context of the Input (prompts) it has been given. So the output is very very generic, never 100% what you want and more often that not shitty. Therefor anything "AI" should stay far, far away from Art, it is a amazing tool, but using it for art is bringing a industrial drilling machine to a brain surgery.
