Good day, people of the jolts!
I figured, since nothing much was posted for a good 5 months, I’ll do a summary today so off we go, right?
What’s cooking?
To tell you the truth. Not an awful lot has happened in these five months as there was this other project that demanded finishing. And there’s yet another one but I digress.
The road so far on The Vrennman Case.
Lets hear what programmer person has to say about him not doing his damn job.
I’ve been terribly busy doing behind the scenes work. As the screenshot suggests, I’ve managed to bring back lights with shadows. So that’s cool. They are slightly more expensive in terms of drawcalls (one per light) but they do not have the massive overhead of having meshes generated on the CPU. The is a net gain we made here.
I’m also in the process of throwing out some old code which has become obsolete. Specifically with the controls system where there’s a kind of abstraction layer for the input system which is not required anymore. Another system is
Additionally to that I’m in the progress of replacing the dependency injection system I made on my own with another solution that does it better. That’s very “behind the scenes” and doesn’t do anything on the representation layer but still. It’s work that has to be done.
I’m also planning something for the text rendering so we can have pictures in the text.
So you know, I’m not very happy with this. This programmer person keeps throwing things out and putting in new stuff and nothing seems to progress at all. But who am I to judge, right? As long as I pretend to pay the man he’ll pretend to do good work for me. There’s also the graphics guy. He did things.
Hello, graphics guy here. I’ve been doing things with John and Ellens sprites. I’ve given John a completely new set of animations and a new look which fits his actual image much better. Gotta give it to him. He’s not the spaghetti dude I made him look like at first. I might have removed the pony tail too because at that time he did not have one.
Otherwise I’ve been working on repainting a lot of sprites - still doing that. I’ve got to be honest. There’s not much more I did in the time. There were projects that paid actual money so I prioritised those. Sorry, John.
And that concludes the work of my lazy partners in crime.
I’ve not beein sitting here twisting thumbs though.
There has been progress on writing down the story and lore. I’ve got it all in my head but apparently, for the others it’s easier if they have it on paper. So I’m doing that.
I’m posting bits and pieces of the script every now and then on twitter, too.
And that concludes to road so far.
We’re still at the beginning but the tech behind the games gets ever so better. Wether I care for it or not. I’m positive we can start doing the actual game very soon.
