The Wild - 2 Years of On-and-Off Development

The Wild is officially releasing in public beta on June 28.

What did it take to get here?

Well, The Wild (originally called Wild) was an idea I had back in 2022. It was going to be a simple survival game made in CopperCube 6 (ToyBox's engine). I quickly realized this was not going to work, and I put the game on hiatus. I started cooking up ideas for the game and searched for a good engine for the next 2 years, settling on Godot for a little bit. I eventually switched to Unity (recently), changed the game's name to The Wild, and changed it into a survival-horror game. There are now 2 working builds as of posting, 1 is a private alpha and the other is a dev build that i used to test a temporarily broken very important feature.

Where are we going next and what other projects are next?

Our next projects are Benjamin's House of Chaos Plus, and an official remake of ToyBox in Source. BHOC+ will officially release on August 8, 2024.

ToyBox's remake is coming on September 3, 2024.

These projects do need to get out earlier than I'd like, because it's either early this year, or summer of next year. This release schedule does depend on how hard I'm working on The Wild though, since if I'm releasing possible weekly or bi-weekly updates for the game, I won't have time to work on BHOC+ which means there won't be time to finish it.

That's our story on this game, and what's next for us.

Thanks for reading,
