Updates on the Art Department.
So, as I mentioned previously on an older post on the page, I had taken the creative decision of scrapping a good chunk of the game's artwork in favor of a direction that much better fitted my ideal characterization of HIGHROLL. Since then, I've been trying to work the hardest I can on it, and so far I am safe to say that almost all of the stuff that was scrapped has already been replaced with the newer spritework, now not only looking much better in my own view, but also being a bit better thought out, since a lot of the older content was made in between huge time spaces, and thus had idea and style inconsistencies n' all.
In case you are wondering what exactly I'm referring to when talking about this. In short, I've remade all of the spritework for Papyrus in the game, giving him the redesign that is gonna be used for the full HIGHROLL project, instead of keeping the original swapfell paps design. Now, I know this might push some of ya'll away, since a lot of you have followed the page for how we characterized Swapfell Paps, but don't worry, the redesign is done in full faith to the original creator's intent, so you'll still be getting that ugly, one eyed face that he had before.
Aside from that, some other stuff has been revamped, like the Violet Brick Road (The judgement hall replacement), which has gained some major fixes, meaning the scenario has almost the same design, just looking better I guess lol.
As well as that, artwork regarding other parts of the game are also being worked on, with an entire section that comes BEFORE the Violet Brick Road for the player to venture before facing off against Papyrus.
I still have a long way to go regarding the artwork for the game, but trust me on here, things are looking amazing so far, and I'm making sure to put every bit of effort on 'em to make the game spark.
(Here's a tiny teaser of said new design.)
Update on the Music Department.
We are cooking.
Real, fucking hard.
As I said previously, I got 2 other musicians on the game, and while one still haven't worked around on the game yet (Which is fine, he's making some stuff that will only be needed WAY later on in development), the other one, Muddock, is absolutely cooking up in the themes for the game.
I'm genuinely very, very excited about how the OST is coming along for the moment, not only because it perfectly fits what I had in mind for the project, but also because the songs are just genuinely pretty well damn made if I tell you.
So look, you're gonna be entering the game hearing to some good Undertale Styled shit, that's all I can say.
So far we have gotten quite a good chunk of the sound design done, with some bits of important music done here and there, and some sound effects and general mood being put together. It's going slow, but it's for the better, since what we have so far is very, very pleasing to my ears so far.
Update on the Concept n' Writing Department.
Writing's going pretty well. Honestly, there really isn't much I can talk about here since this part of the game is mostly done as support for things like art and song conceptualization. A good chunk of the necessary writing for the Genocide route has been already done tho, with all of the dialogue necessary for Papyrus encounter having been revised AGAIN due to his redesign, along with a bunch of other writing bits regarding other parts of the game being done.
So far, this part of the game is going swell, and is honestly a pretty good way to take time off from all of the arting I have to make haha.
Expect lots of themes behind it, lots of it.
Update on the Coding Department.
As for the moment, we got almost half of the fight for Papyrus coded in terms of attacks, which is fine, since Benlabno is going pretty slow with the coding due to his real life stuff and whatnot. I'm not exactly that much worried about it, since he still seems pretty interested on the game, and is more or so just busy with other stuff.
Tho, I have been considering hiring another coder to speed things up, since while I do enjoy taking time for things, it's been getting a bit sluggish to work on the game, despite the fact I very much prefer working with a team as small as possible, mostly due to how I hate working with too many people, and how afraid I am of getting stuff leaked or plagiarized.
So hey, just know that I'm with the idea of hiring another coder in mind. Specifically one that has some good skills over Game Maker Studio, since it's the engine we're using.
No, this ain't a wanted posted, so don't go into my DMs offering yourself lol.
Final thoughts.
I very much appreciate the attention the game page's been getting so far, since we're at almost 100 followers. This is a pretty big project to me, not only in terms of scale but also affection, so to see it getting even a tiny bit of attention is enough to make a guy like me smile.
Expect only the best from us, and possibly a teaser of the game sometime next year.
Aside that little thingy on top, I sadly don't have much else that I'd be safe to show at the moment.
Sorry ya'll, I know there's a couple of folks that are probably very excited by this game, and would be looking to see more of it, but sadly not only me, but some other members of the game are very terrified of suffering from plagiarism while working on this.
I know, might sound a little crazy, but I've suffered (And still suffer), from that kind of stuff, so I have a bit of a step-back when it's about showing stuff from a project that isn't done.
Don't worry, I do plan to make teasers in the future for the game to keep ya'll hyped, but for now, I hope ya'll can make do with the couple dozen writings I put out every once in a while.
Just be sure that we are working on stuff.
That's all folks, and remember:
Make 'em a member of the Midnight Crew!
