In Gooter, there are two different species of monsters that won’t actually hurt you until you hurt them, unlike the very hostile Roguts. They are the neutral mobs of the game, yet they serve very different purposes from each other. Let’s take a look at the green and purple duo of passive-turned-aggressive creatures living on the floating islands.
Soobers are the green little chompers found in fields and forests, green and blue respectively. They start out super friendly, with their cute little marching animation to make gou smile and cheering you on. However, they turn super not-cute once even a single bullet hits them. When in their provoked state, their skin heavily darkens and their eyes glow red, signaling that they are out for blood. Don’t worry, you can beat the game without having to offend a single one! Well, at least that is the plan, anyways.
They tend to enjoy protecting and observing crystals merely as a hobby, which is why they seem so unbothered when you break one. This creates a bit of an extra challenge for those seeking to break the crystals in order to progress by forcing you to be extra careful with your aim. One accident and your life may be over in just a few heartbeats.
Mooniks are quite different than Soobers. They are neutral and have the same reaction to getting hit, however their role in the game is very different and generally more important. Mooniks, fitting to the theme of nighttime, are only found in Blue Forest. Inside the forest of dark, purple crystal gates are found. Their job is to BE the purple crystal. With their power given at birth, they must protect the purple crystal gates with their lives, albeit at a further distance.
Unlike Soobers, where attacking them is always optional, Mooniks MUST be slain in order to progress. They ARE the purple crystals after all, and defeating them is just as important as breaking the red and green variants.
Here’s an interesting fact about the two that might benefit you: They can’t fit through 1-tile wide gaps. Once one of these creatures comes after you, don’t let them out! Escape while you can, if you can!
Now that you know what these special little creatures do, you can be more prepared for when you see them during your journey. Of course, they could very well change by the final game, but as of right now I am happy with them as they are.
