Three Random Archives:
First things first, I mentioned a couple of months back, that the game will be littered from top to bottom with random events. Events that are planned to interact with the game's various systems, whether it be the gameplay, the environment, menus, UI, etc.
In total, there will be about 22 events that'll occur randomly through the duration of the game. Some events will have a higher probability than others, it may even be possible that, you can play through the entire game and not encounter even one event - that's how rare some of these moments will be going forward. The final build of the demo will contain 7 of these events!
The next up: Sound Design! Whenever I'm developing a game I always make it my aim to do something completely left-field/different with every aspect of the game, this even includes the sound design.
When I made SoulChain, I made it my #1 top priority to imitate the audio quality of the original Gameboy! When making Makeshift Hell, I wanted that game to visually look like you were playing it off of an old CRT Tv.
For Three Random Archives, the goal here is to have a mix between retro arcade 8-bit audio and real-world audio. Depending on the situation, some gameplay sections will make complete use of only 8-bit sound design. (I.E. Archive #2 arcade "racing" section.)
Characters will make use of only 8-bit audio, while interactable objects and environmental locations make use of both. Some of these things can already be heard in the current demo.
Things like the police sirens and Wilson's air conditioner can be heard while roaming his house. A deep drone and other subtle audio cues can be heard while wandering inside "The Big Top". In my opinion, the game is SEVERELY lacking in the sound design department, and it makes poor use of these ideas. This will also allow me to set aside some time to tackle and fix the audio level issue that game has, in where some parts of the game can be extremely loud, while others aren't despite all of them being set at the same volume.
So, for the next month and a half, I'll be purely focusing on fine-tuning and implementing these features into the game.
That's it for this month! As always thank you everyone for your support and I hope you're excited for next month's game
