I had a discussion with someone about this topic recently so, since I can, I'm gonna make a Gamejolt post about it! Who will stop me, the police?!?!
To grow and evolve from your past mistakes is something I know dearly, since I, as everyone else, including you, dear reader, have made plenty mistakes in the past whether you wish to admit to it or not.
We have all fucked up, we have all made mistakes, some simple that don't mean much in the whole scheme of things, some that affect our lives and shape them to something unintended. Whatever it is, a mistake is a mistake. And we must grow and learn from them.
To pretend your mistakes do not exist means you have not learnt nor grown from them. To pretend and want to erase them, means you want to appear as a perfect individual who never made a mistake in their life.
As an example, a very easy one, Puggos Plush! (Does anyone even like that guy??)
Puggos Plush has made several extremely controversial videos, the latest one to my knowledge being "FNAF Plush: How The Grinch Stole Christmas", where, for some reason, they decided to make it so The Grinch does some... Extremely questionable and deplorable things to Balloon Boy, an in-lore minor.
After an insane amount of time of the video being out, they finally decided to take the video down and make a public apology - all good! Well, not really, since what the fuck are you doing making the post in the first place, but at the very least he recognized the error of his ways!
... However, what the fuck are you doing copyright striking every reupload of the video, thus deleting the evidence of your mistake?? To do that implies you haven't changed and you still think you're correct, you just want the evidence erased to look better.
I think Chazington said it best in his latest video, quote:
Hugo is copyright striking any re-upload of the Grinch video, are you fucking kidding me?!?! [...] Did copyright striking anything actually lead to like a deescalation of a situation ever?? You look so petty every time, ah, yes, because taking accountability is when you delete all evidence of wrongdoing so nobody can judge you.
(Go watch the video in its entirety it's great Chazington peaked again)
I think I literally cannot put it into words any better than Chazington did right there. Deleting all the evidence and records of you ever making a mistake is not taking accountability and growing, but rather accepting it and being able to let it be knowing you grew past it and became a better person.
And to act as if that's not true is to not be sorry for your mistakes, and only want others forgiveness with no real change of evolution to your character. It's to be deceitful and unchanging.
Alright, that is all.
May you all have a good day or night, whichever fits you better.
