Weird to see this post after a devlog I know. Ive been considering the cancellation since the beginning of December and that anticipation kept growing until now that the reasons were too many not to share.
Writing issues
Considering that I'm the director of this project it should be logical for me to write and figure out all of the writing. However, a thought that could work is usually blocked by another one and having absolutely no idea on how the story wouldve followed the main events in the game.
Tilesets
The style that i implemented was absolutely awful as i was trying to figure out a new artstyle for the game. It took 5 days to make all of the tilesets before putting them together and the way i designed them was not only mediocre but was puching me to more issues which took me a lot of time to fix and ended up being awfully designed.
Making the artstyle the same as the original undertale is an alternate option even though thats basically loosing 4 weeks of work.
Other sprites that i made aren't the most appealing either, they all are rushed and bad which may raise the question that why havent i told other team members to do them in my place.
Hiring Team members
This has been especially difficult. I have absolutely no idea on what social to make a help wanted post since it wont get much attention anyways, especially since I've started this project really late. Im afraid of what to do that will inspire people to join. My team is really small so im not going somewhere even though im more than grateful for their amazing work. Some of them arent that active and have other projects going on so they might loose passion for it which I'm not against since my main goal is for them to have fun while making this project.
Communication
A few days ago. My discord account got hacked and began sending to all of my dms left and right convincing scams with my name plastered all over it. This has made lots of my friends loose respect over me and maybe some of my team too. They might loose passion over this as I've said before.
Other fangames
(Just to clarify I'm not taking this as some competition and never did)
Other fangames are doing a super great job even with a small count of work. They all are putting effort on what they do and people love it, including me. But looking at my project comparing it to theirs makes mine leaving a disgusting taste over people onto that what im doing is just made to be finished and not polished over time. A fangame centered around a bit of sadness wont appeal much in my opinion
All of these ideas tie up in a way or another which made me write all of this. Im not confident on how this project will turn out and i dont think it will be endorsed in peoples head as a good thing.
