We've been collecting and answering questions throughout the week, and finally, we're ready to compile them all into a mega QnA post. Let the questions commence!
Why did you pick the name “Undertale: Harsh Parallels?”
We aimed for a name that was more accurate to its identity. It is a mix of Underswap, Underfell, Swapfell, and loads of original content. Although it’s still a Swapfell take at heart, it’s a very unconventional one, and having the title Swapfell is extremely misleading considering how different the characters and world are.
How will this be similar/different to other swap and fell AUs?
One major difference is that many of the characters will have different or new dynamics with characters that are sure to be a treat! The Fell aspect is more conveyed through the world than the characters - another reason why we shifted away from the term “Fell.”
Will the game be dark?
Overall: No. It will handle different things than Undertale, and take inspiration from Underfell and Swapfell in terms of presentation. Considering all of the dark themes covered in Undertale, the game can’t exactly have that label.
What were your inspirations for the game?
We took inspiration mainly from role-swap AUs like TS!Underswap, SS!Underswap, Underswap: Echoed, etc., that lean more into maintaining the original personalities of characters. Then we just combined that with Underfell & Swapfell concepts.
Will there be side quests?
Yes, each area will have a couple side quests, and we’d recommend completing them. Trust me it’s worth it
Is the Flowey swap Monster Kid or Chara?
Our Flowey swap is something very interesting. You'll soon see why it's not a simple swap.
How’s progress on the game been?
Well, we really only became an actual team like a month ago. We’ve basically got all the important stuff, areas, story, characters, ect, planned out. And we also have a couple sprites and concepts done, plus some music. The main thing right now is getting the engine finished.
Is there anyway I can help the game or join the team?
Well, of course! Although we're getting full on team members, we're always looking for more help.
Above all, we are looking for extra sprite artists, but do make sure you can have a similar art style to the one we have now.
Even if you can't join the team, consider sharing this and following the game.
Are there changes to the battle system?
Aside from something mentioned in the next answer, not really, though some enemies will have two ways of sparing them, mostly to add some extra variety.
Are there any new mechanics?
Human items have a special purpose now. They’ll really spice up how you approach battles and show off a bit of the previous humans’ personalities.
More than likely we will think of new mechanics throughout the game’s development, though.
Will we be able to have monster companions to accompany us on our adventure and help us in combat?
Only for a few select parts in the game, but we won’t get into specifics.
Is there an easy mode?
There will be no difficulty option. But we will make sure the game is fair, and above all, fun.
