That's right - after all this time, I bit the bullet and added one of the free volumetric light plugins to Unity. No more faking light beams with semitransparent cones for me. This is the big leagues, now. Welcome to "AAA".
Well, I guess it's not that big a deal. I'm not really much of a fancy plugins guy but something that's been on my mind is that Unity could sort of disappear or become unusable at any moment, as all for-profit game engines can. Maybe once I've finished these games I'll finally give Godot a whirl. So in the meantime I've been treating these games in part as a last tour of all the frou-frou stuff that I might not get to use anymore, cloth physics and water effects and fancy lighting and postprocessing and whatever else. Smoke it if you got it..
Otherwise this is not that exciting an update!! Development is continuing but I've been trying to keep most of the funny stuff in reserve, so most of these updates will just be All Contextless Atmosphere All The Time. But I am looking forward to working on this area, based around memories of a place I used to walk around at night.
Thanks again for all the comments + jokes!!
