Update #6 - It's going to end soon

I just released the version 0.8.0. It has the final boss of the normal ending. Yes, there will be another ending, let’s call it “the best ending” with the true final boss, but that’s not available in this version yet.

This will probably be the last version before 1.0.0 release (“the official release”). It will probably come next weekend.

This version also fixes some bugs, like the bug that made some bullets harmless. Anyway, here’s a completele list of new and fancy things, but also bug fixes:

New features

  • Mission 7: Mutant Baby Factory

  • The normal ending

  • The Mission 8 (final battle in Planet Fungus) can be reached if you defeat all the ghosts (although in the current version you can go there even if you haven’t defeated all the ghosts), but it doesn’t have the boss battle yet (and since it’ll have only the boss battle, it has nothing)

  • Loading screen

Bug fixes

  • Fixed that bug that made some bullets harmless (I had accidently written 10-2 id instead of 10- 2 (id==11) )

  • Fixed Mission 2 enemy spawns

  • Something else…?

To-do:

  • I forgot to rename the boss version of Secret Weapon. Now it’s called Blup Blup (temporary name), but it was supposed to be “Fred the Undead Baby”

  • Not sure if I should make the lighting bolt bigger when used the Thunder special attack since I made the laser beam bigger

That’s it. Have fun!

Sometimes I start a project but I lose motivation to finish it. This is one of these projects. The source code is available on Github, though, and there you can also play the prototype:

Some funky hand-drawn animation. And I really mean hand-drawn animation: I drew the frames on a paper with a pencil and then scanned the result and created the gif.

Who would have guessed, making a puzzle game with metroidvania-like progression for MS-DOS with CGA graphics didn't really work, but if you want to try it, see here: https://github.com/jani-nykanen/the-curse-of-cga (see "Releases"; requires DOSBox)

I still had fun, though.

Some progress. I'll start a devlog once I decide the name for this game (the working title is "A Tower for Memories").

Night is coming.

Note that "night" is just used to reveal some objects that are required to collect to enter the final area, it's not a distinct game area.

More about it later.

Stuff

Devlog is coming once I draw the logo and create the game page.

It has been over four years since Operation Fungus, so I decided to remix the first mission. The result can be found here:

Have fun. It's playable on browser, by the way.

(don't let the video "thumbnail" confuse you, this is a new video!)

Hey cool, video uploading is up (heh) and running again!

I added intro sequence and intro map to the game. The story is going to be a bit more minimal than I originally planned.

Here's some #art. You don't have to thank me.

The working title is "A Memory of Owls". I'll start a devlog if this project survives that long.
