So, I'm back from my break that I mentioned in my first devlog.
It wasn't a break that I wanted to take but rather one that I had to because this week has been very busy for me (don't worry though, it's for good reasons)
But in the spare time that I had I continued working on the game, and trying to beat max mode.
And I can safely say, it's possible to beat! A while ago I promised myself that I wouldn't release the game until I managed to beat it, so now I can peacefully rest knowing that it is possible.
Though if you're gonna try to tackle it yourself once the game releases, I'd recommend studying how all of the characters work, because sometimes they may try to gaslight you into thinking they went to a specific door when in reality they went to the opposite side of the map (this isn't a bug though, it's actually on purpose)
Hell, they even managed to trick ME a few times, despite being the person that coded them, lol
Speaking of releases, the game will be released on the 27th of this month, if everything goes according to plan! (so in 2 days! no specific hour though)
I was originally gonna release it on the 26th (aka tomorrow) but on that day an album I've been waiting for for a long time is finally coming out and I don't wanna miss out on it, haha
Not only that but I also wanna play through the entire game one more time to reassure myself once again that everything works exactly as it should.
There are times where you think you caught every bug in the game, but then you release it and people find like 12 or so that you didn't. And I don't want that to be the case.
As for the cheats that I mentioned in the previous devlog, I managed to make them work! Instead of activating or deactivating them through the extras menu, now they're activated through hotkeys in the gameplay frame!
They're the reward for beating max mode btw. If you try to press any of the hotkeys before beating it, they won't do anything.
Oh and don't worry the game will tell you what the hotkeys are (but good lucking trying to beat max mode...)
I also managed to get the Game Over lines to work! (Though maybe they should have been kept out because all of them suck LOL)
The settings, however, have been scrapped. There really wasn't much of a point in having them, aside from maybe the "Youtuber Mode" (which replaces the copyrighted music during gameplay) but maybe I'll make that its own separate build.
(Though I doubt any youtuber big or small will play this so I'm not sure)
The credits have been finished as well! The song I chose for it is... certainly a gem, to say the least.
As a closing note I just wanted to say that I'm kinda glad this page "flopped" in a way, believe it or not.
Normally that would be considered a failure and yeah, having something you're putting passion into go unnoticed can be dissapointing at times, but this is just a little personal project that I'm making for fun. If it gained a relatively big following I'd feel quite pressured and I feel like I'd dissapoint people in the end.
Y'know, that's actually one of the things I used to miss the most from when I joined GameJolt almost half a decade ago (wow, time flies). It's fun to return to your roots :)
It also makes each post / devlog feel more personal, idk.
Anyway, see ya on the 27th!
