*Whoops, I posted this on the wrong page at first (I posted it on my Qimsar page, not my PT for PC page, I didn’t notice that until my boy SmoggyChips responded to it) so I’m reposting it here. My apologies, children. If you read the first posting of this, this has no changes to it, it’s the exact same so yeah
So I was going to make this update because I had just gotten banned on Twitter for a very cute reason that I will explain shortly, but I figured that if I were to make an update on that (because a lot of people communicated with me over Twitter and since that’s gone, I don’t really have a way to tell people to communicate with me elsewhere), I may as well make an update on everything else and make I guess a bit of a retrospect about my experiences and whatnot, and in typical cutie-patootie Simon Cromwell fashion, this post is going to be long as nut.
So why were you banned from Twitter?
Well, I was going to change my bio on my Twitter and I saw that my date of birth was set wrong. I saw that I had used a fake age, presumably because I was probably too young to make a Twitter at the time. So, I figured it would’ve been fine if I just change my date to 12/26/1990 (which is what it was) to 12/26/2000 (what it should be). What I did not realize was that I made my Twitter account sometime in February of 2009, and what I also did not realize is that Twitter has a very strict policy against people under 13 making Twitter accounts. So, I changed my date of birth, it asked me if I wanted to confirm it, I said yes, and I instantly got banned from Twitter, with a message saying “Our Terms of Service require everyone who uses Twitter to be 13 or older, and we have determined that you did not meet the minimum age requirement at the time this account was created.” It asked me if I wanted to submit a ticket, so I did that and they said: “We’ll be able to unlock your account and will be in touch again with updates on our progress.” They also said that they’d need to find a way to delete everything that I had posted when I was under 13 years of age, but the thing is that I’m pretty sure I made my first Twitter post when I was like 15 years of age so I don’t entirely understand that, but whatever. From what I’ve heard about Twitter, the odds of them actually following through with unbanning my account are next-to-none unless if this ‘case’ gets a lot of publicity, which I really doubt it will and I’m fine if it doesn’t, I suppose.
So how else can I get in contact with you?
You all may have noticed that I had responded to almost literally every single comment and message I had received on my Gamejolt, my Twitter, and on my Reddit. Unfortunately, I didn’t respond to all the comments that were posted on the different articles about PT for PC, but I did my best to keep in touch with the community and I would personally say that I did a pretty good job, and I’m pretty proud of that. However, with Twitter, being probably the #1 place that people could easily contact me, I’m basically forced (though not really) to hand out my Instagram and my Snapchat. My Instagraph is qillerqimsar (Daniel Keem, eat your heart out) and my Snapchat is flyinglaptop so feel free to add both of those and if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to ask away, I’m fine with talking to you all, and I’ll delve deeper into that later in this cute little post. Also, don’t mind the three of four edgy posts on my Instagram (it’ll be obvious what they are when you find them), my homie posted them, not me, and I left them up there out of courtesy for the homie who posted them I guess. Anyways, a few people also asked me why I didn’t make a Discord server for PT for PC, and I guess I figured that Discord had enough problems on their hands, dealing with white supremacist groups and pedophiles making Discord servers that I didn’t want to add on to their growing list of concerns by making a separate server of my own. Nah but for real though, this will probably sound weird but I guess I don’t agree with making a Discord server for everything. Discord and Curse Voice (RIP) was made to replace TeamSpeak and Mumble, and I’m fairly certain that there wasn’t a TeamSpeak or a Mumble for everything so it feels weird to me that it works differently from Discord. I don’t have too much of a problem with making a Discord server for everything but it seemed really unnecessary for me to do something like that so I just never did. Instead, unless if somebody else made one (which I doubt that anybody did make one and I doubt that one will ever come up in the future), I would prefer if people were to DM me personally over Discord. My username is coolguy123#3508 so do with that what you will. And then of course my YouTube and my Twitch are youtube.com/FlyingLaptop and twitch.tv/cromwellsimon so feel free to do whatever you wish to with those. Oh, and I guess while I’m at it, my Soundcloud is https://soundcloud.com/user335715484 so if DJ Khaled or Cole Bennett or somebody is interested in doing something, hmu b/c trust me when I say I’m finna be the next up and coming rapper on the block.
Is there any update on PT for PC?
So as I said on the last post, I did, in fact, keep on developing PT for PC, albeit at a much slower rate than what I had been developing at, to the point to where I don’t think I’ve worked on it any in the past 3 or 4 weeks, it is slowly but surely getting closer and closer to completion. If any of you all still have the link to the list of things that I had left to do, while it hasn’t moved any, again, in the past 3 or 4 weeks, it only has a few things left to do and then PT for PC will have been fully completed. However, as I also said in my previous post, I intended on completing it to show to my dad. Yes, it’s been almost 5 months and I have still yet to show my dad PT for PC simply because it’s not finished. However, it is extremely close, I’d say it could easily be called v0.9.7 by now, which, again, is quite close to v1.0.0. So while it is getting closer and closer to being done, because of Konami kindly asking me to take down PT for PC, I will be unable to upload it to the public, and thus probably anybody else who asks for it, which leads me on to my next couple of topics.
Any update on Konami?
Well, thus far, they’ve delivered on everything they said that they would do, so uhhh yeah, there really isn’t too much to add on this department I guess, so here’s a cute little segway onto the next point that I wanted to talk about: whenever I had first announced that Konami had asked me to take down PT for PC, there were a few people, like 2 or 3 people, that didn’t believe that Konami had actually hit me up and that they had actually asked me to take it down. There really isn’t anything else that I can say other than to just trust that I’m telling the truth, and that I’m not lying because lying is a sin and I like to do my absolute best to avoid partaking in sin. However, after a bit of my help, Artur Łączkowski released his own PT remake on itch.io, which was never taken down by Konami, and although his remake ended up having a happy ending for himself and those who followed him, it didn’t end in the best of news for those wishing for a 100% proper PT remake, unfortunately. And then, come to think of it, no other PT remake attempt was shut down by Konami, either. So why is that?
Why was PT for PC shut down, yet no other PT remake attempt was?
Lol uhhhhh I actually don’t really know. I don’t know why, out of all the PT remake attempts out there from SmoggyChips, I do have a few theories, but this is all just me talking with my tinfoil hat on, so don’t take what I say as fact or anything, these are just theories that I have. So, my first theory is maybe my version was just too popular to be avoided by the legal team. From what I understand about copyright laws, they literally do not allow for any fan recreations or anything like that or else the copyright holder is at risk of losing the rights of said trademark. For example, say if I, Simon Cromwell, made a remake of PT called PT for PC, then that remake simply existing puts Konami at risk of losing the trademark for Silent Hill. Normally, the remakes can be put off to the side because if they aren’t popular enough for the local government to take notice, then it just doesn’t really matter. However, mine got a pretty gosh darn significant amount of news coverage which made mine a special case, which is why it had to get taken down… until I helped out Artur Łączkowski with making his remake, and he, too, got significant news coverage, albeit probably not as much news coverage as my version, but his was never taken down. So that pretty much threw that theory out the window. So that leads me to my other theory. I personally don’t believe any of the Konami/Kojima ‘ruse’ theories that have circulated, however, I guess the other theory that I have is that maybe what happened with PT for PC was maybe something ‘ruse-y?’ I don’t know, like, maybe the reason why they took my version down and no other version was because they were interested in me as a person (I know that sounds egotistical or whatever but hear me out). Like, maybe if I never brought up that I was (and still am as of writing this) 17 years of age (shoutout to Twitter again for getting me banned because of my age :P), maybe they would have just avoided it? Maybe they took it down just as a way to start a conversation with me without needing to keep it ‘hush-hush’ or anything with their legal team? I don’t know, again, this is just me talking with my tinfoil hat on so I guess if you all want to, feel free to theorize amongst yourselves.
So what have you been doing since PT for PC was taken down?
Well, as I talked about earlier, even though PT for PC was taken down, I have still been working on it, albeit at a much slower pace. Again, the to-do list is ridiculously small now, there’s only just a few more things I have to do and I’ll be content with it being fully finished. However, apart from that, I know that with PT for PC, a lot of people applauded that I used the original assets for authenticity’s sake, but there were a few people (and when I say a few, I literally mean like 4 or 5 people out of the hundreds, if not thousands of comments that I have read) that thought it was ‘cheating’ in a way to use the original assets because I wasn’t making them on my own, which I can understand, but the point of PT for PC was to make a fully faithful recreation of PT (and to teach me how to use UE4, among some other reasons but those two primarily), not to make something to call my own if that makes any sense. However, I’ve been spending the past 5 months since PT for PC was taken down just learning. Straight-up, I’ve just been straight learning. I haven’t been working on anything of my own, I’ve just been watching online courses. Not even following along, just watching and studying the crap out of them, on Unity, UE4, Blender, 3DS Max, etc. When PT for PC was taken down, I knew almost nothing about Blender, I still hadn’t grasped the RMB vs LMB select thing, but now I feel very comfortable in the realm of, not just game development (e.g. programming, doing stuff in-enging, pretty much all of PT for PC was on the ‘Development’ side), but now on game design (e.g. 3D modeling among other things). Apart from being a cute little scholarly boy and studying all thing on game development, design, and finishing up PT for PC, I also played through the entire Silent Hill franchise and, as of I think early last month, I started a Game Development series on my YouTube channel (though it is also on Twitch). I’ve been doing the series live, raw, and uncut, and in typical Simon Cromwell fashion, I’ve also been keeping it consistently cute despite my terrible upload speed and thus 480p-max video output but yeah. That series was something that I talked a lot about doing to some people and I’m doing it and so yeah, that’s nice.
So is there any way that I can receive PT for PC v0.9.7 ;)
I wish I could but uhhh I’m not trying to screw up relations with Konami by doing that. Konami has been, like, ridiculously nice to me thus far, and, again, I’m not trying to cause distrust or anything because of doing that. So yeah, I’m sorry but I can’t, I’m still developing it for the sole purpose of showing it to my dad though. So I have still yet to show PT for PC to my dad, but he’s currently occupied with watching me play with God of War 4, RDR2, and Spider-man with him so I still have plenty of time to finish it ;). I’m still updating that to-do list for whoever may be interested in reading that (though, again, it’s been a minute since I’ve last touched it, but it is much shorter than what it has been), so I still intend on at least keeping to my promise to making a fully complete remake (although I’m still having a lot of difficulty making the cockroaches :/).
Retrospect on the entire situation
So, there were many reasons on why I chose to do PT for PC, most of which I think I made pretty clear throughout my other extremely lengthy posts. My reasons for making PT for PC ranged from me learning how to use UE4 (the reason why I started making it) to finishing it for art preservation purposes (the reason why I made it public and my reason for finishing it (or, at least as much as I did finish at the point of writing this)). and fortunately, I was able to accomplish those reasons. I became very comfortable with UE4, and, at the time of this point being made, PT for PC v0.9.2 is the most complete (ironic as that may sound) PT remake. And man, if v0.9.2 was pretty complete, while I can’t distribute it, v0.9.7 es muy completa (it actually has the fancy-dancy aNiMaTiOnS). However, I digress from the point that I really want to talk about. I mainly want to talk about how much I enjoyed talking to you all. As I said earlier, I’ve responded to nearly literally every single comment, message, and whatever else on the Gamejolt and Reddit posts that I made, along with a vast majority of Twitter posts that I was @ in. I can’t count how many times I’ve had to answer the same question over and over again and how many times I’ve thanked people for their compliments on my remake and whatnot, but man, I wrote a lot. And I really enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed DM’ing people and having full conversations with you all and whatnot, which is the primary reason why I chose to make this cute little update post. Had I not liked talking to you all, I wouldn’t have made an update about what happened to my Twitter account, because I know that Twitter was the primary way that you all had communicated with me. Again, unless if my Twitter magically comes back (which, again, knowing Twitter, will probably take a little bit of a minute to happen, if at all), then if you all want to hmu (which I hope that you all do because, again, I really liked talking to you all a lot), it’ll have to be over my Instagram or my Snapchat. And again, feel 100% free to DM me or, better yet, since it’s Instagram and Snapchat, if you hmu beforehand, I’m also 100% down to call or something and just have a casual conversation, it can relate to PT for PC or not, it can be about questions about game development, or something that I’ve been very fond of doing lately: watching movies over a phone call. I think it’s adorable, and yeah, just throwing out some ideas if you all are interested. Giving out my Snapchat is probably asking for me to get doxxed or something but idk, I guess I’ll take my chances with that? I guess the last thing that I want to say is to thank you all, like fr. I like to be a bit cocky and annoying (in a funny way, not to put anybody down because that’d be a sin) about how privileged and stuff that I am sometimes, but daaaang, dude, I’m actually, 100% legitimately so thankful that all of this happened to me because it’s been a ride. I know that, with me being only 17, some of you think that I can’t really comprehend how big of an opportunity that I got was and whatnot, but while I may not be able to fully comprehend it (because of my lack of time with a job and not having to worry about bills and the whatnot right now), I sure as heck appreciate it. And thank you too, Konami, despite having a relatively controversial past couple of years, I can’t stress enough how much I appreciate y’all’s kindness towards me, and thank you to all the dudes that I gave a shoutout to in the OG PT for PC for helping out, being there, being a good bud, or whatever else you were shouted out for. I don’t know if I’ll make another update because, if you’re reading this far, as you can probably tell, this post is pretty gosh diggity-darn long, and I hope that I’ve explained everything that has happened well enough. If you all want me to elaborate on anything to (almost) any given extent, hmu and I will be 110% willing to talk to you all. Once again, thank you all (and also add me on literally anything other than my Twitter because my biggest source of being able to contact you all has been completely wiped out, shoutout to them boys over in Twitter HQ) :)
