v1.0.2 Release + HTML5 version


okay look. cards both figuratively & almost literally on the table, this is the entire reason it happened:

and the rest is history. And while I'm at it I did some light coding cleanup and tweaked a couple other things, as well as just generally exporting the game on a newer version of GameMaker. So, as far as memory serves, differences are:

  • Added support for WASD for menu movement, and Z/Space for selection

    • (the implementation of this also changed a few other things, like holding both left & right not causing disgusting ear spam)

  • Updated the "Top card" display in the top left so more than one card can move in at once

  • Updated credits

  • Updated implementation of audio (so it isnt accessible inside the zip file anymore. sorry)

  • Updated the "Play again?" menu so you can't move the cursor until it's moved into place (i mean you couldnt select anything until then anyway so may as well.)

  • Fixed spamming the enter button on main menu when selecting Play

And that's it. Nothing substantial, but y'know, it's a LITTLE cleaner. It's SOMETHING. Can't see myself coming back to this again for anything. I know I mentioned support for other AIs and players before, but I don't really feel like trying to more fully understand this code to implement it for a mid Uno clone. UNOTALE sweeps. Speaking of which, I'll admit that I'm not 100% sure all of the cleanup has the game working exactly as it did before, so juuuuust in case, I've made this a separate release, and v1.0.1 is still accessible below it.

Though on the note of returning to stuff I mentioned at release, I talked about trying to release the game for HTML5 at first, but not doing that because GameMaker doesn't fully play ball and locks up the controls sometimes. Well, for shiggles I tried it again now, and it doesn't SEEM to be locking up the controls so.....y'know what, screw it. HTML5 version too, now you don't even have to download the game to play it! How convenient! (this is also why i changed how the audio was implemented since if it was done the same way as it was in the previous version all the music would lag a bit before playing)

okay bye im gonna get back to procrastinating on fnan:r and that one secret project that i was supposed to work on for the past month but havent now

.........oh yeah and idk if anyone ever figured this out so the cheat code i mentioned in the last devlog was the konami code. yknow, Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A. thats how you cheat and see nuttys cards. youre welcome.

ever wanted to play popgoes in the engine that gave us sonic forces? well unfortunately youre gonna have to wait a bit longer for that, but hopefully in the meantime playing it in the engine that gave us undertale should suffice
