We have take off! Mini Devlog #1

Hello all,

Just a very quick update today. This update relates to the last post (Devlog 1: The basics of birb behaviour) where I discussed birb movement and spawning.

I just wanted to add to that post here by discussing very briefly birb landing and take off. The birbs now “know” whether they should be flying or not, and I have added animations to show landing and take off.

This was achieved by getting some more frames done to show lift off and landing, and incorporating that into the grounded and flight animations at the start but only looping the head-bopping, or wing-flapping, respectively.

The respective animations only play when they should since the birb knows whether it is moving are not. This is achieved by the birb remembering the distance it has travelled at each waypoint, and if the birb’s distance is more than that, it is obviously moving so needs to be flapping.

This may be an issue if I wanted the birbs to walk also, but if I do decide I would like to add that, I have a couple of ideas on how this can be achieved without complicating the current set-up. That may be in a later mini devlog.

Thank you for visiting,

Just as Pecaminosa's musicians #improvise this rendition of #LittleSunflower 🌻, so do we improvise with this post you're reading. 😂

What's coming out of your own improvs? 🤔

What you all think

I worked so hard to get all four of them to the end safely, but then...

Made my first ever animation.

I mostly build 3D First Person Shooter game mechanics in Unity, and in this I'm just showing C4 mechanics I made for a little side project I am working on! :)

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
