Well met! Introducing player feedback

Greetings!

My name is Daniel and in this devlog I will be introducing myself and what I will be working with throughout this project.
I am a designer and my focus on this project lies in player feedback, I will be working with everything from controllers to visual effects to achieve the best experience for the player.

Summary of what I will be working with

In this early stage of the project I have been working with some basic controllers and cameras.

Goals
As mentioned above my focus lies in player feedback, now what does that really mean?
Examples of what I will be working with is controllers and visual effects, I want the player to be able to have the best experience possible. If we take the controllers for an example, I want the player to feel as the controllers feel intuitive, smooth and responsive.

But how will I be able achieve that?
Well, through a lot of testing and receiving feedback from my team and other individuals I will be able to do a lot. But I will also be looking at other VR games to see what they have done to make the game feel pleasant to play, and with that I can extract ideas and add the ones I think will fit into our game.

Plans and current progress
So far I have been working with cameras and the VR controllers, below I go through my progress and current thoughts to what I can do in future updates.

VR controllers
Current progress:
So far i have been working on basic controllers for the game. Setting up a teleportation system so the player can aim with a controller and move around, and I have also been testing vibrations with the controllers.

Plans: My idea with the vibrations is to be able to give feedback to the player when an action is performed, such as pressing a button or grabbing an object. I want to make things interesting and fun for the player, I want the feeling of satisfaction when you interact with different things in the game.

Camera functions
Current progress:
When it comes to the camera I have been working with post-processing effects and also a camera display. Working with cameras has been very experimental but also very fun!

Testing out different ideas to see if it works well with the VR headset has been a rather interesting challenge.
Plans: When it comes to the camera display, I want to create a shutter effect to simulate taking a picture. I also want to create a nice feeling in the game in general when it comes to colour and other different effects such as depth of field. Less is more they say, and I am confident to say that when it comes to VR it is a really good mindset to work with. I believe in a lot of subtle effects to create the perfect feeling of being submerged deep in the depths of the ocean in a submarine.

That’s all i got for this update, so thanks for reading and we will see you again soon!

// Daniel
