Right away, I’m not gonna make an April Fools Joke. I made one on the game’s Discord Server and that’s about all the japes I’ll be doing for today.

So, there were a few topics I wanted to discuss.

First up:

Why does this game look like “Don’t Forget” by RickyG? / Are you ripping him off?

Yes, I get that it looks that way. Same ideas and it even starts out in waterfall too, I know. I can, however, explain.

The biggest difference between Don’t Forget by RickyG and my game is that his game will follow a story. His game will have an objective to complete. Mysterytale’s focus is rather on player interaction and exploration. Don’t get me wrong, Mysterytale will have a story (which has already been written down), but there will not be a set objective. There will be certain things that can be accomplished, but no objective set by a story. You can try to unlock all skins in the game. You can try to find all secrets and collectables, but there will not be a set objective. This is also why you can play as weird characters such as Waluigi. If there was a serious story going on, I don’t think you could play as Waluigi.
…Or a green M&M that is modelled after Dr Phil….
RickyG has also said that skins will not be in the final version of “Don’t Forget”, if I can recall right.

tl;dr: Don’t Forget is about a story, Mysterytale isn’t. End of story.

As for why the game takes place in waterfall, the area in the game is just the testing-area from when I made the engine. It was a mere reference to some person who developed an Undertale-Engine. All of their videos showed a few rooms with a Waterfall-tileset.

I really didn’t realize that this does indeed look like I was ripping of RickyG, untill he personally told me.

I will get to making new maps eventually, but for now we have to stick with waterfall.

How can I play the game?

Due to recent events of people joining, downloading the game and then leaving, we had to create a new system, using Mee6’s levelling system.

Basically, you get EXP for writing in chat and with enough EXP you level up.

As soon as you reach Level 2, you get access to the game. Simple as that.

Now, some of you might be wondering what the problem is with people joining and leaving shortly after. It’s for the same reason why the game is only available on the discord server to begin with.

Why is the game only downloadable on the Discord Server?

Since the game is still in early BETA, I would prefer to be able to talk to people who play the game. I would like some feedback, some ideas, etc. If the game was released just on GameJolt, people would probably not give feedback, etc, and are unlikely to join the Discord Server.

The game will be released here on GameJolt as well, as soon as it leaves the BETA-state. Until then, you are free to join our Discord Server and try out BETA 1.5.

On a side-note: I’m still working on PvP, don’t worry about that.
