Hi everyone, it's me speaking. I have come to make an announcement, and explain how UNDERCREATOR, despite having a vast pool of playtesters, ended up being a buggy mess filled with crashes.
Despite me recruiting 30 people to do different things and collectively playtest, there were only a few of them who actually showed any playtesting, and only one of them tried their hardest to crash the game in every way they could. As you can tell by the current state of the engine, it wasn't very successful. Overall, the team I recruited was more knowledgeable in how the engine would work. And I don't mean to downplay their efforts, they still did a fantastic job. We just need some that were more... low level, if that makes sense.
Version 0.1.1 coming out too soon was completely my fault, I noticed all of the bugs coming in through the report section on Discord, and I let the pressure get to me. This is something that a developer should never do, especially during a circumstance where this is their first major project that had been hyped up for over two years.
We initially delayed back in September due to an external playtester constantly running into bugs and crashes, not to mention that at the time it was extremely inconvenient to use the engine in the first place, never mind crash it. In all fairness, what I should have done is delay the project again and hire more people, but I thought delaying it again would bring disappointment, when in actuality what I did had the complete opposite effect.
So how will we fix this?
I am discussing with my team trying to find the best way forward, and the biggest lead we have so far is to hire more testers, particularly ones who can be available most of the time during the day and be more aggressive with the builds we provide to catch out every last bug and crash we can find. Right now, this is just a theoretical, but I do see us going down this path. Should it get confirmed, I will put a link to a form that you can fill in so you can join us.
Either way, there is going to be more time between different versions from now on. It's unlikely, but not impossible, that you will get another patch before 2026.
I am sorry for all inconvenience this has caused (or will cause), and especially for delivering a broken product. But on the other hand, I thank you a lot for sending in your reports, so this wasn't a complete failure.
Version 0.1.2 is coming next, this will hopefully fix any remaining bugs, so we can eventually start work on Version 0.2.0 (the new content coming with it isn't fully set in stone yet, but I would like to finish the Battle Creator).
Thank you.
- Lottie, the developer
