With inspiration from @nilllzz I dove back into No Man's Sky for a little to see what the new update would behold. It was pretty cool!

Couple opinions:

Draw distance

This game has come a long long way from its roots and it really does generate some awesome sights, but things like draw distance are its biggest downfall in my opinion.

Obviously, performance matters. This is a multi-platform game so it needs to run well on consoles too. I just wish I could change some more settings and really push my hardware to the limit!

The second image above with the awesome glowing grass was so cool! But you can't see it in the distance. You have to be pretty darn close. I'd love to see a mountain or hillside covered in it from the distance but you can't and that's a really big shame! That goes for a lot of things in the game. You have to be so close to see things!

Volcanoes!

The volcanic world, while super awesome, was at the same time kinda of meh. If you look at a volcano from a distance it doesn't look like it fits the terrain properly. You can tell it's kind of just placed there as an object. It just doesn't blend and fit well at the base. Bit of a shame but not a major issue.

Also their draw distance sucks!
You have to be so close before they appear its kind of ridiculous.

I also found I could stand on the molten lava seeping down the sides with zero consequence. That did kind of suck. Light me on fire damn it!

Just to be clear this update is awesome!

I've been hoping for some more variation for a long time as even in a procedurally generated galaxy, eventually, the game runs out of animal and plant piece combinations and things start to look very samey. They've addressed that somewhat here and I'm really glad!

But as always, and I think I'll always be saying this for a game like this, there's still a lot of things that could make it better.

That's the issue of creating a universe. There's lots of things in a universe. To make it feel like one you have to try and replicate all those things.

A long lasting dream

As a final little tid bit that I would love to see some day and have been hoping for since No Man's sky released:

I reaaaally want solar systems to actually be solar systems!

Put the sun in the middle! Make the planets orbit! Make day and night actually be day and night! Pretty please.

Thanks for reading <3

We took @Benallen 's suggestion and improved the map view even more by changing the colour of rooms you've entered, further clarifying where you've been so far; and thus where you might want to go next.
