One game I haven't talked about much, but was a huge influence on Crystal Story's gameplay, was Terranigma! If you've ever played Illusion of Gaia, then this will feel like a spiritual successor in some ways. The only way to play it now IIRC is emulation.
Out here repping obscure games, I'm a huge fan of old-school GBC-era Monster Catcher games.
One of my favorites is Mobile Beast Telefang! Fun fact, Mega Man composer Manami Matsumae worked on the OST!
