FlatFormer Engine v4.0

Version: 0.1.0about 17 hours ago
Version V4.0 * Level Selector Implemented * 4 Completely new stages with actual goals

An entire 2D Platformer engine made entirely in C with OpenGL code, made to support older hardware, going as far as Pentium and Celeron; Taking up as little space as possible.

The screenshots shown are from genuine Computers/Laptops from Between 1998 and 2015, no virtual machines :

  • Acer Aspire ES1-511 running Windows 7 w/ Celeron N830 2.16 GHz and 4 GB of RAM

  • Desktop PC running Windows XP w/ Pentium 4, using an NVIDIA GS 7100 GPU and 1 GB of RAM

Some of my games will be made in this engine, using as little resources as possible to ensure the game is available to everyone (...That is a Windows User, for now; I will make a Mac OS and Linux build some other time)

Minimum Requirements for playing :

  • Must have at least 32 Megabytes of RAM available before running

  • Recommended to use a CPU newer than Pentium; As i haven't tested out older CPUs yet (Confirmed to work on an Intel Celeron 2.16 GHz Processor)

  • Can run on any Windows OS between 1998 and today (Tested on Windows 98 SE; You may encounter slowdown on this version of Windows)  (Windows 9X won't work anymore in exchange for proper 60 FPS, The OSes confirmed to work are Windows 2000, 11, and everything in between)

  • Tested on NVIDIA GS 7100 with no issues, anything newer than that should work (Edit : If textures won't load, you may be using the default "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" driver, please update the GPU drivers if that's the case)

For Linux users : the game can run on any Windows Compatibility Layer without any issues, as far as i'm aware; (V4.0 Will have a Linux build someday)

Controls : Arrow keys to move, ALT key to toggle the Menu, you may load any "FFMLEVEL" files from there

Any feedback would be appreciated on this Engine!
