Whispering Depths

NiteLite is an educational simulation of our deep oceans. One of the most mysterious, and misunderstood places on planet earth. Is it a vast abyss with creatures of nightmarish origin? Or is it empty with no life at all? The answer is neither, and I hope this game shows people that. Creatures will be programmed to be as realistic as possible, with plausible reactions and interactions with their environments and each other. No creature in the game will be located above the twilight zone exclusively, as that is what I and the rest of the team have decided. Fish won't attack you, and will usually run away. Only a few large fish will respond when provoked. The game will contain 250 creatures and will be almost completely focused on exploration. Each fish you find will be unique in their own way. The main thing to do in the game is to collect blueprints and create modules. You will play as a submarine and will have the ability to deploy tags. These tags have a limited success rate, but will usually be very effective on the common nautical animal. If you manage to actually tag one, you will gain a blueprint. This blueprint will give you access to the modules crafting recipe. Each fish will have its own unique craftable module which can be attached to your sub 3 at a time. These will reward your submarine with an ability that mirrors the fish's real-life adaptations in some way. An example of this would be how the Stoplight Loosejaw allows you to utilize red light. Red light wavelengths are very rare in the deep sea, making it virtually invisible to other fish. Acting as a one-way headlight. This will let you sneak up on fishes without them getting startled and swimming away. The more fish you tag the higher power the upgrade will have. All 250 fish will have their own unique ability, giving the player another motive to keep exploring the depths. Tagging 10 of a certain animal will reward you with the creature's bestiary entry, allowing you to gain info on the creature at hand. The game will have a 2D drawn art style with limited vision, with heavy details put on every aspect of the game. All animals will be correctly proportioned and placed. No fish will spawn in the incorrect biome or location. You will even be able to leave the ocean and venture into deeper lake areas as long as they are located below 200 meters deep. You will have the ability to kill fish for resources, but this will be discouraged as there will be other easier ways to accomplish things. Every fish listed in the game will be pinned in announcements. The game will have a very atmospheric soundtrack created by 10th Element and Anders, which contains a variety of unique pieces fitting for all aspects of the game. Eerie and beautiful ambient sounds will also be used to create mystery, as that is one thing the deep sea is known for. The game will have no DLC, and just free updates and bug fixes. I want this game to be an extremely pleasurable experience that the ordinary player will not soon forget. The game will be released on Steam and Gemjolt for PC and Mac sometime in the next few years for $20.
