The Return to Freddy's 2 (originally titled Five Nights at Freddy's 4 Fan-Made according to the file names of the teasers made for the game during it's alpha stage) is the second installment in the TRTF Saga, but despite the game having a '2' in the title, this game is actually a prequel to The Return to Freddy's Classic, taking place a few decades before it. The next game both chronologically and in the series is The Return to Freddy's 3.
Plot Summary
Welcome to your new and exciting career! In The Return To Freddy's 2, you are taking the night shift with Freddy and his friends with some new characters. They have just moved in a music box to replace an old worn down gift giving animatronic to keep the kids happy. What could go wrong? As the security guard working nights, your job is to monitor cameras and make sure nothing goes wrong after-hours. You are the first guard to work at this location. So to make your job easier, you've been provided with your very own empty Freddy Fazbear head, but during development of the building, some dust and other toxic things might have gotten in there. So don't wear it for too long.
Gameplay
The player assume the role of Cawnoth Cotts, and he must avoid the animatronics from 12AM to 6AM. He has a monitor, Freddy Mask and an audio player (against Dug). Remember always to charge the generator and the Music Box. Failure to do either will result in a jumpscare, resulting in a Game Over.

Major Updates
The Return to Freddy's 2 was planned to receive a major update in 2016 (along with all of the other games from Volume 1), consisting of a massive coding overhaul to the game as well as the remodeling of the game's characters (much like the first game's update). The major updates of the game were planned to include various new games modes. All of these major updates were eventually cancelled however, until they were revived and put under the control of TannerFeline in 2017, until the Major Updates were eventually cancelled again. In 2018, it was revived once more with ShaneTheBarbarian being tasked with modeling all of the animatronics for the second game. The Major Updates were eventually cancelled yet again however. Some of the game modes which were planned to appear within the 2016 iteration of the Major Updates included:
Nightmare Mode
Nightmare Mode, previously known as "Withered Mode", was a proposed one-night only game mode that could be unlocked after setting Freddy, Bonnie and Chica's AI to 6 each in the Custom Night menu. You would have played as Cawthon Cotts in a nightmarish version of Fredbear's Family Diner trying to avoid getting killed by Nightmare Lockjaw, the only active antagonist of the night, by rapidly wearing the Freddy Mask.
Dread Mode
Dread Mode was a proposed game mode that was going to take place during the time when BFP died inside the Frankburt suit and Lockjaw was first given life. You play as Lockjaw trying to avoid the "Ghoul Animatronics", which are representations of his deepest fears, getting to his head.

Trivia
According to TRTF: The Dreadful Truth, this game takes place in November 1987, although in 2015 Tyler said that it takes place in 1975.[4]
The Return to Freddy's was originally intended to release on IndieDB and Desura as well during the game's beta stage. The now-deleted IndieDB page of the game can be found here, and so can the download link for the game's beta demo which was originally hosted on said page. Due to the Desura platform going offline on the 16th of March in 2016, the game's Desura page has long since been lost (where the game's beta demo was also presumably also hosted on).
KidduTheMan was originally intended to be the modeller of the game. [5]
The Return to Freddy's 2's main menu theme is actually just FNaF 2's but reversed.
The main menu in the alpha is different compared to the final official release, as Freddy is just a bizarre fusion edited together using Springtrap’s head from the first FNaF 3 teaser and Freddy Fazbear’s body from FNaF 1 & FNaF 2 as opposed to a full 3D model.
The beta version of the title screen is also different to the full release, as Freddy's model is different from the full release.
When an animatronic kills the player while they have the Freddy Mask on, the mask will not be removed like it is in FNaF 2.
Kitty FazCat and Dug's jumpscares rarely rendered in the early versions of the game. In fact, Dug's jumpscare doesn't even occur on the final released built of the game.
There is an odd glitch during Nights 5 and 6, in which if you flash your flashlight at any of the animatronics while they are in the office hallway (excluding Foxy and Dug) they will instantly jumpscare you.
During the Alpha stage of the development, Tyler posted links to the two videos in the comment section of the Game Jolt page: "Information video"[6]Â and "You Ready?..."[7]; the later appeared earlier and was posted in a devlog post on the page of TRTF Classic,[8]Â being the first post related TRTF 2, so it can be assumed that the video was an announcement or teaser video.
There was an unreleased build of this game titled "V2.01" where the phone guy's voice acting was done by one of Tyler's friends: KidduTheMan. Sugar's custom night icon was also changed as well. V2.0 used Sugar's beta icon for the custom night.
