What do you think?

just played through the demo and i have to say that it's amazing!) it's an old-styled RPG in a classic fantasy setting with a unique twist - people can't read, and those who can are the chosen ones - the Sights, have to save the world from a certain doom! while the premise itself sounds rather campy and cliche, the way it's presented in the game and the various fun adventures that the main character's, See, party make it all worthwhile!) the game sports great level-design and locations that are very well-done, intricate battles with tough enemies that actually make you think during the fights (something that can't be said for many RPG Maker games out there...), an interesting party composed of characters with great and simple designs that all have varying roles in the party, and, on top of it all, a great, almost bug-less performance!) all in all, the demo for The Sight is a job well done, Velios!)

now, i want to go over some of the cool things that i've found while playing the game - mostly little, but, nevertheless, cool details that make the whole experience all the more worthwhile!) one awesome thing is present before even starting the game itself - the options menu! its very extensive and has a lot of quality-of-life features, like the ability to make the game go either full-screen or stay in windowed - this is a much needed feature in a lot of RPG Maker games and i'm glad that it's present in this game!) one o the cool details that i've found was Ako and See's mother actually growing old to show the effects of the time skip in the prologue, and the ability to interact with pretty much any items in the house (and a lot of items on the map later on, too) and get some insightful descriptions while you're at it... next, i love that you can borrow a carrot to the right of the tavern - it's such a small but funny and awesome detail, but it shows how much attention you've put into making the game, Velios! the fact that the graveyard markers only have faces on them since no one can actually read aside from the sights is a very nice detail that also takes into account the game's lore. then, the fact that the cracks in the old house actually make you take damage is a pretty realistic and unique way to use the damage floor function of RPG Maker!) next, the inanimate stone knights fit very well to the mine's rock theme and make the player adapt their strategy by switching from swords and bows to magic! i love little shakeups in gameplay like this, and The Sight has a lot of them with the various enemies that See, Ako, Mia and Kys encounter on their way!) next - i haven't seen many mute character in RPG's, and especially those that are the main ones in the story, so, See feels like a breath of fresh air - i love the fact that his ability to see clearly is balanced out by him being mute - such a unique and realistic way to make a character... in real life, if someone's senses, be it sight or hearing get depleted by physical trauma or something else, the other senses get better - although, in See's case he had great sight from the birth, but still!) then, I love that there's a small cave after Frost Fang with some awesome loot - most people will probably miss it, but those who explore every nook and cranny will find themselves rich from all of the gin that the corpses and the chests possess!) and, finally, i love the way you acquire each of the party's members through quests - this way every new character at your command feels earned, and having more comrades is always rewarding!)

now, even though there's a lot of good things in the game there are still problems that need to be adressed - they're quite small and don't make the whole game bad, but still, having them fixed up would make the whole experience all the better!) firstly, Velios, i hope that i'm not asking for much, but it would be great if you could go over the game's dialogue and descripitons once more and fix up all of the little text errors here and there - be it an incorrect letter (like in the prologue movie, where See and Ako get to the moss shrine the first time and See starts reading the tablet there is a typo - you should replace the "it" in "You can read what it written" with "is", and so on...) or just a small grammar issue - they're quite rare but they're still present throughout the game... next, this might be a nitpick from me, but the characters slightly lean to the sides if you're sprinting - this looks rather awkward and i would love if you had the option to turn this off, aside from never dashing, of course, jajaja... next, Mia still appears in the cutscene where you eat at the Tasty Smerald even if you haven't acquired her in the party, and, just like in the tavern cutscene, even if Mia isn't present in your party she still has a say in the dialogue when you fight the Frost Fang boss.

i'll give a conclusion to this little essay/review in the next comment, since Gamejolt deems this one too long - bah!

DESCRIPTION

Hello everyone! What I propose is a classic rpg created with Rpg maker and a classic plot: the game starts "in medias res", the world was cursed years ago, nobody can read and it's difficult for normal people to use their sight. You are a guy named See (what a fantasy) who is the new Sight. The legend of the Sight is the fulcrum of the story, no one knows it perfectly, but everyone recognizes you just by looking at you. Explore continents, do some quests, make friends and enemy, look for the statues, find out what the legend really means and try to save the world from its darkness... or not if you want.

DIFFICULTY

The game is not that easy.

There's a strategy for every bosses you can face: you have to measure out your special skills and understand how to use them (expecially those of the Sight).

FUTURE UPDATES

The game will have:

  • 5 continents to explore

  • 5 super bosses and a lots of minor and secret bosses

  • Story and character development for each of your allies if you follow their quests

  • A lots of unique and legendary weapons

  • Blessing, curse and unique abilities that affect the fighting for a lot of characters

  • And more
