What do you think?

Interesting game which highlights an important point, multiple choice I like but I don't drive, maybe a version for someone just walking can help relate too. Good game.

This is my project about saving the world too if your interested: https://gamejolt.com/games/recyclemyworld/452628

Disclaimer:

The from testing on different computers, I've found that the HTML version of the game is a bit finicky. Depending on the computer, you might need to reload the page a couple times before it works. Please let me know in the comments if your weren't able to access the game. Thanks!

This game was made for a green chemistry action project to spread awareness about everyday choices that impact the earth's environment. It follows a narrative where you are meeting up with an old friend while there are choices to make along the way. While playing, it's important to pick the answers you would choose in real life to recognize the differences you could make by putting a bit of extra effort into your everyday tasks.

How to play:

Click the download then extract the zip file to wherever you want it. Then, you can either go into the folder and run the .exe file or make a shortcut and placing it wherever. Before playing, your PC might warn you of a dangerous file, click "Run anyways". (It's kinda sketchy, I know, but I don't even know the first thing about making viruses). Please let me know if you have any questions.

Green Chemistry Choices and their Actions:

  1. It is estimated that there are nearly one hundred million tons of illegally dumped waste around the world. This affects the health of the environment along with ourselves. When waste isn't properly disposed of, it never ends up in a landfill and instead ends up in the environment and likely into the ocean's pacific garbage patch.

  2. In Canada, the US and the UK, it's estimated that 7 million takeout cups are used a day in each country. That’s 2.5 billion and an estimate of half a trillion around the world each year which many end up in the ocean, and the surrounding environment. Also, these cups are rarely recycled even if they are put into the recycling bin because of the plastic lining in the cup to keep it from spilling.

  3. Even donating a dollar to a marine or environmental conservation organizations can make a difference. These organizations, while they may have different methods from one another, all have a common goal to save the environment.

  4. Idling your vehicle is something not many people think about. This affects global warming by releasing pollutants into the atmosphere. 26 million tons of extra gas are emitted each year by idling vehicles mostly in bigger cities. Emissions from vehicles contain Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) which are main ingredients in the creation of Ozone and particulate matter.

  5. Of the 8.3 billion metric tons that have been produced, 6.3 billion metric tons has become plastic waste. Of that, only nine percent have been recycled. The rest end up in landfills or in the natural environment. Because of this, things like the pacific garbage patch exist along with a mass of plastic and waste contaminating the natural environment.

  6. Nitrogen Oxide can form with other pollutants to form toxic chemicals by burning garbage and it'll affect the growth of plants and trees. It also releases high levels of dioxins that settle on crops, streams and lakes. These chemicals are also toxic to humans and can cause long-term health effects.

  7. While it’s important to be safe and lock food away in the wilderness, not doing so can be dangerous to the camper and the animal. Exposed food can be harmful to animals that consume them along with wrappers and plastics that may also be eaten. Even without the plastic and waste, animals can become reliant on human foods, disrupting their natural diet and even being killed either by the food or by the camper acting in self-defence.

If you're feeling extra keen to help the environment, here are some of the best organizations that are here to safe the planet to consider donating to:
