What do you think?

Hey man. Cool game. I like the idea. You totally should improve this game.
And, you could put some Gravity on the alone heads.
And also, try to fix the Collision between heads and platforms.
I like it.

Hello! I've decided to leave a review of this game!
I gave it a 3/5.
Here's how I decided on that score:

Positives:

  • It has a unique and original artstyle.

  • It utilizes an interesting and original gameplay concept.

  • It has a help screen. (You'd be suprised, most developers just throw the player in without any instruction).

  • It has gamepad support? (I haven't checked out this feature yet).

  • Has actual music.

Negatives:

  • Attack animations are stiff and lifeless.

  • Camera is stiff.

  • Attack noises are spammed during combat. (Hitting a target will take out 1 health, but the attack noise plays 12 times).

  • Death lacks animations and sounds. The only feedback for a successful kill is when the opponent's head falls off.

  • Opponent stays in same location after death. (Respawns in the same place they died).

  • Controls feel stiff. (No acceleration, friction is instantaneous).

Summary:

Let me be straight here and say that this game is by no means "a bad game". If it were bad, I would've rated it 1/5 or 2/5. I rated it 3/5 because it lacks a few elements or it has elements that could've been executed better. Let's start off by noting that it could do very well by using GM:S's built in physics engine. This would allow the heads to roll around, and could add for a more interesting combat with knockback and other movement abilities. Another improvement would be a better camera movement system. Instead of snapping to the exact distance between the characters, the camera should instead smoothly shift there. Speaking of smooth camera movements, the players could benefit from both acceleration and friction instead of instantly moving at full speed then immediately stopping. Those are the improvements I can suggest immediately. The other improvements are for your artist and sound designer to decide on. I apologize if this is a very hard-hitting message to recieve on the first day putting up the game, I just want to help you folks improve.

Headstrong is a school project made by our group, Game Juice.

It is a local, multiplayer, sport, beat 'em up in which the players must fight one another, steal opponents heads, and use them to score goals. It uses a very cartoony art and animation style, and is violence without harm.

We plan on creating a fuller, more content filled game, so please give your feedback as it would be much appreciated.
