After beating the game 100% i must confess it was a short fun ride. So im gonna review the game with my experience so if anyone is reading this then watch out for Spoilers if you are playing the game blindly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, the first thing to say is that i like the good MS Paint style used in the game, expecially the characters. Some of them are good like Rex and others are meh, like some Mario poses in the cutscenes. The fact that Mimi is an actual enemie in the game makes me smile thanks to the fact of using creepy ambiented stuff in the Mario games for every enemie in the game, including such dark Mario game for the Wii. So her level as one of the archivements say, can be really short, not durating even a minute unlike other levels, introducing the main mechanics in the game such Free roam, flashlight recharging (almost useless but i didn't wanted to know what happened once it ran out) and the item mechanics. In this level i had to run around collecting keys that spawned after each one was used until i opened the gate to freedom, as i saw in beta footage of the game Cappy was gonna be there with Shadow Luigi & Gooigi (which was replaced with Mimi, where animation look awesomer for the characters and the question block moved by his own in the first level). It was a easy looping map to navegate that confused me more than once due to the houses, but easy non the less. If there was a way to make the first level harder, i would recommend adding another character or buffing Mimi, but over all it' s a good introduction to Mario's bizarre dreamscape boogaloo, but one thing is for sure, never stay in a room for too long, NEVER, or else Phantario will make you fly around your head once he comes out of the floor.
After that i went for level 2 and survived 150 seconds in a mansion with the all mighty King Boo, Cappy for some reason and the Piano. It was the hardest level in the game for in the wrong way, Cappy was the responsable of it, he is a good idea until King Boo starts appearing with him at the same time, seeing the reason why the Cappy coin was made, and the Mad Piano was... Pathetic to not say anything more insulting, it almost never attacks and it's thanks to it's low rate of attacks, making between 1 and 2 playings in 150 seconds, if he was buffed it would be a better level, neither way, ghost clicking it' s now humanity's favorite activity.
Level 3 is what i consider the fastest in concept but hard in speed.
So in this level the trees are alive and kicking, making the exposure meter grow without warning, but the capacity of seeing them in middle of the "room" is good so you don't have to search them down while asking why your exposure is growing. They seem to hate the Super Horns (the first item added to the beta of the game) so much that if there' s one where you are located you will be insta killed, solution: Just get out and come back. The living trees only get active when you make the first horn play, however that isn't the exact thing for Rex.
Rex will be always active and work like any other of the fellow threats that don't kill you until your exposure gets too high, but i think that with his style in the game there could had be potential to be a character that would take several escapades to avoid in this level. So, the Big horns thanks to the almost plain location makes them easy to collect, but that will bring 150 seconds of waiting for the portal to the real world to appear, Level 3 is challenging for it' s speed, but not for it's mechanics.
But now there's the sauce, PHANTARIO' S FINAL BATTLE.
So Mario goes coco bananas and brings a shotgun to fight Phantario because he is in a dream, and starts level 1 Encore mode edition, not much of a big fan of the idea of playing on where you started but different in ideas, but i must confess the boss fight is actually interesting. You need to search keys to open a gate that will be always blocked, having to survive other 150 seconds until we finally run away.
The problem: It is needed a portal at 60% or more to proceed, and Phantario can still kill us if waiting in a room for too long.
So meanwhile Phantario is a good idea in boss fight, a buff for him to really show how of a threat can be with his almost insta kill attacks for a final boss like him. So if the tasks are done then you will proceed to wake up and break Luigi' s spine after hugging him so hard(a good gag that could leave into a sequel where Luigi is in a vegetative state having similar dreams to what Mario experienced), finally ending this almost an hour experienced. So, the game is short, and there could be more archivements for players to let them explore the levels and do things, heck, even a DLC where the unused underground temple can be played in as a alternative path to level 3 via the level 2 hiding a switch or something similar to a key for when you activate a secret way into the temple. Or just simply making a DLC level based on the beta version of the game.
This was a fun dance, but now... Let's do the Mario my fellaws.
"7,5/10. More levels plz."
