Battle for glory, rescue your family!

'Mark of Mona' is a hybrid #visualnovel/#puzzle-battle game inspired by 'Pokémon Puzzle League', 'Puyo Puyo Tetris', and 'Shaman King'. Set in the wondrous, magic-powered kingdom of Vergagia, you will embark upon an #adventure to rescue your missing brother from the clutches of a divided society - and you may just save the world in the process.

Narrative-Rich Story With Unique, Compelling Characters

In 'Mark of Mona's comprehensive visual novel-style main story you'll play as Mavyn, a disenchanted dragon farmer from the outskirts of Vergagia. Mavyn will embark upon a quest to save her brother Kriss when he goes missing upon leaving the farm to seek a better life. Along the way, Mavyn will come across a litany of people from all walks of life, with their own hopes and dreams for the future of the kingdom. To make matters worse, her journey will ensnare her in the cruel machinations of those who would seize power for themselves, no matter the cost. Will Mavyn be able to rescue Kriss from a world that threatens to consume her as well? Better yet - will she become the bitter winter that her kingdom needs?

Intuitive Puzzle Battles

'Mark of Mona's unique puzzle battle system combines the fast-paced gameplay of Match-3 VS with the strategy of health/power bars. By matching tiles into chains and stacking chains into combos, you'll fill your power bar with enough energy to use any of a number of powerful attacks to dazzle your opponent and deplete their health. Additionally, you can use your Gambit attack in battle to impede, distract or hinder your opponent's gameplay. With a plethora of characters, each with a unique attacks, tiles and Gambits, every character has their own strengths and weaknesses in combat - and by unlocking new characters through gameplay, you'll be able to master them all!

Couch PvP & Challenge Modes

In addition to the main story, 'Mark of Mona' will feature a variety of competitive modes, including Challenge Modes like timed Obliteration Battles against titanic special enemies; Practice Modes to hone your puzzle battle skills; and Couch PvP where you can battle a friend with any of your unlocked playable characters, each with a unique playstyle that can suit any player!

What Happens Next?

We'll be posting devlogs and updates on 'Mark of Mona's development onto GameJolt and itch to record our progress, take feedback and build a following for the game. We hope to have the entire first chapter of the story ready to play as a free, browser-based demo for everyone to enjoy sometime in 2020!

Keep an eye on your blocks! If they exceed the top of your grid, the Overflow damage could be devastating! Getting hit by your opponent’s attacks is certainly painful in a Magic Battle, but your own ignorance can hurt yourself just as much!

Been working on a new battle intro sequence AND a battle voice line system all day today - ready to bring some fresh battle content with voice acting and all sorts to the table!

We've been updating the visuals of the 'Mark of Mona' Puzzle Battle scene to make it look more engaging and fleshed out. We're working hard on the game's story mode to boot - we've now made Vinneas a functional opponent in-game! Also, new cover wallpaper!

We've finalised the designs and internal art for Kriss, Vinneas and Boz: three major characters in the demo's story mode, and all playable characters in Quick Battle! Burn away the enemy as Kriss, drain their power as Vinneas & leave them bleeding as Boz!

A 1P story mode isn't the only thing we're planning for the 'Mark of Mona' demo! We've created an early-stage Quick Battle system for local battles against the CPU or a second player, with 5 playable characters!
