Super Smash Bros. Universe is an upcoming Smash Bros. fangame project I'm doing...alone.
The game will aim for an incredibly...and I mean, INCREDIBLY large roster of fighters and stages, probably even bigger than Ultimate's. The reason for this is because I have plans to add not just Nintendo characters, third party characters, or any other video game characters... But characters from cartoons, anime, comics, and more!
So in short, Smash Universe will be my most ambitious project yet. And there is no actual release date for this at the moment unfortunately. I do plan on releasing a playable alpha build of SSBU with not very much content, but will have stable gameplay, and tons a things to fiddle around with.
The first alpha build will only include 2 playable characters (Mario and Link), 4 stages, and the only modes available being Versus, Training, and Replays. This way, I can try to release future updates as quickly as possible with more content!
Current characters confirmed so far:
Mario
Link
Kirby
Pikachu
Sonic
Spider-Man
Goku
FAQ:
Q - How many characters will be in this game?
A - Not sure just yet, but the roster will at least be bigger than Smash Ultimate's at some point.
Q - Can a 4th party character be in Universe?
A - Well absolutely! As I stated, it can be anyone from a video game, cartoon, anime, comic, etc. There are no limits to who will be a fighter in this game.
Q - What game mechanics are confirmed so far?
A - Basically everything from Super Smash Bros. Melee, like Wavedashing, Wavelanding, Shield Dropping, and even Moonwalking (except L canceling). Also, I'm borrowing things from Ultimate as well, like Parry, Short Hop Aerials, and Rage. Plus, there will be a LOT more mechanics added later on.
Q - Will Universe have controller support?
A - Absolutely! It'll be available for the first alpha build.
Q - Will Universe have online?
A - Of course! Except in Universe is gonna be much different compared to other Smash fangames, but I'll save the details for later.
