What do you think?

The sprites are dope, the animations are dope, the core gameplay is dope. I don't like how the enemies move and I feel like the hitboxes on your attacks are a bit too small. I find it really hard to hit things sometimes. Also, when there's a decent group of enemies, it can be really difficult to avoid taking damage since it's so hard to see the damage markers and so many tend to appear at once. I really hope this gets worked on more. I would definitely buy it if it was available to purchase.

As soon as I saw this game I thought to myself "this reminds me Armored Dove from last year..". Hey! Turns out it's the same developer. I wasn't surprised to see another very high quality beat-em-up entry.

I can't emphasize enough how well polished and professional calibur Shooting Star is. It really feels like a period fighter game, though with a lot of snappiness that GameBoy fighters of the time lacked. There are a ton of moves and combos, and plenty of visual goodies going on at all times to give oodles of gratification. Everything about character control feels nice and tight. Drill Kick for the win!

All of that said, I have to balk about the camera. Though each level is a single contiguous area, play seems to be broken up into roughly screen-sized regions where the camera will /snap/ between as you traverse the edges. Given how fast paced the movement and combat are, I found navigation to be disorientating. Combat was reasonable if I kept it within a small area.

Until the later parts of the second level the levels were subject to the Escape Velocity effect: the player is quick enough that they can zoom past enemies without even bothering to engage them, seeming with no negative consequences. Later on the game employs energy-shield-like constructs to impede your progress until you defeat foes. I would've liked to have seen less artificial barriers employed to keep the pacing interesting.

4/5! Superbly polished and intensely satisfying.

The graphics are amazing, I particularly like the GameBoy UI elements around the game, it really adds a great touch. The combat felt smooth and was fun, even though for someone like me who isn't very good at fighting game it started feeling a little repetitive after a while, but I didn't mind because it was still fun sending enemies flying!
The music and soud effects are also pretty good, and all in all I think the game does a fantastic job at being fun and beautiful while still fitting nicely with the game boy theme. Great work!

Hello! I really enjoyed your game, it was fun to play and looked and sounded great! I made a let's play of it here~

awesome!

Shooting Star is a game made for Game Boy Jam 4 about punching space dinosaurs over and over until they suddenly decide to explode. Use your surprisingly robust pursuit combos and variety of moves to fight lots of different types of enemies, then use your super-cool Special Moves to really wreak havoc!

Controls
Z (A) • Jump
X (B) • Attack
C (Select?) • Special
Enter (Start) • Pause

Combine X and C moves with different direction buttons (y'know, like smash bros) to get different types of moves

Made in 9 days (or 10? how long was this jam?) for #GBJam. I did the graphics, game design, sound design, but music credit goes to 'megaane100' for his rendition of the opening to Ginga Shippu Sasuraiger, and presumably to the guy who wrote that song in the first place (wherever he may be)
