What if instead of a human falling underground destined to either save or eradicate monsterkind, a monster made it up to the surface, destined to save her people no matter what, either through compassion or punishment?
SurfaceTale is the story of a monster named "Samantha", who had been playing with her human step-sister unsupervised when their heart had suddenly stopped. Panicked, Samantha tried to push her soul back into her body, but ended up absorbing it instead.
Two weeks later after endless shunning from seemingly everyone underground, believing she had killed her step-sister, she discovered she could still see and interact with her as a ghost. The step-sister told Samantha about the barrier and how it works, and proposed that maybe if they were to break the barrier, Samantha wouldn't be shunned by her fellow monsters anymore. So Samantha made her way to the easiest to climb hole she could think of, and emerged up into a bright world where an adventure awaited her.
In the world of SurfaceTale, humans are able to use magic, and the kind of magic you can use is determined by the colour of your soul, and what determines the colour of your soul is the trait most prominent within you. But most humans have the soul of POTENTIAL, a soul that doesn't allow them any magic abilities.
In this alternate history, Prince Asriel was stopped from crossing the barrier by the King and Queen.
Because the Prince never died, the monsters never began to collect the souls of humans. Instead, they are welcomed with open arms and given grand hospitality and a new monster family to call home.
Things you'll need to know if you decide to make an AU of SurfaceTale:
If you make a swap AU, please do it based off of the character's personalities and not what "Role" they're in. Speaking technically, there are no roles like that for the most part in SurfaceTale.
I'm sorry, but I must ask. Please wait until the comic has been finished before making an AU, or if you make an AT please wait until the sections of the comic where your AT takes place is finished. If you make up a new area for your AT but need stats for certain characters, you can ask us what their stats are so you can do your thing.
This won't be a game. Maybe. I mean as of right now hell no. It'll be a sprite comic. I'll be covering both the Pacifist and Genocide routes in said comic.
